Excavation process of Hexi cave site

In order to cooperate with the construction of Hexi Reservoir in Changxing County, an archaeological team, sponsored by Zhejiang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and jointly formed with Changxing County Museum, conducted a cooperative archaeological excavation of the Paleolithic cave site in Hexi Cave, Shitoushan, Guangyao Village, Xiaopu Town, Changxing County.

On June 7, 2007, Zhejiang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and the archaeological team of Changxing County Cultural Relics Protection Management Office cooperated with the construction of Hexi Reservoir and discovered the paleolithic cave site of Yindinggang. The site is located on a limestone mountain, about 18km east of the county seat. Its north is connected with the mountains on the edge of Jingshan Park Basin, and its southwest is Hexi and meanders eastward into Taihu Lake, which is less than 1km from Yindinggang Paleolithic Site. Since 1980s, local villagers have established stone mines and started quarrying. Most of the mountains have disappeared, and the cave accumulation has been destroyed accordingly.
