Kneeling for the Folk Tales of Ruili, Yunnan Province
Water-splashing Festival Water-splashing Festival, also known as "Buddha Bathing Festival", is the New Year of Dai and De 'ang people in Ruili. Dai language is called "seeing", and De 'ang is called "Gongpai". Legend has it that it evolved from India's Holi Festival and the custom of bathing in the holy river. The Water-Splashing Festival means bathing Buddha, celebrating the New Year, praying for rain, welcoming spring ploughing, wishing people and animals prosperity and bumper harvests. It is the biggest religious ceremony in the Pali-speaking Buddhist cultural circle. There are many legends about the Songkran Festival. The origin of the Water-splashing Festival in Ruili area stems from the folk story of a commoner who killed the devil with wisdom. Legend has it that once upon a time, there was a demon king who did all kinds of evil, and the people hated him. He seized the commoners and took 12 beautiful young girls from the people as his wives. In order to get rid of his clutches, the bitter women tried their best to kill him and kill the people, but he was always invulnerable, flooded and burned. One day, a younger commoner tricked him into trusting him and got the secret of killing him from the devil's mouth-the devil's head could be cut off by tying one of his hairs around his neck. So after deliberation, the daughters of the people designed to pull the devil's head down. But where the devil's head falls, there is a fire. In order to protect the world from disasters, the commoners had to take turns to hold the devil's head, while the rest of the commoners kept splashing water on the commoners holding the devil's head, so as to wash away the filth on her body ... Since then, the Dai and De 'ang people in Ruili will organize water splashing activities every year in the Dai New Year to commemorate their heroes. In order to respect the traditional customs of ethnic minorities, on April 9, 1983, the first meeting of the Eighth People's Congress of Dehong Prefecture decided to regard the Water-splashing Festival as a legal traditional festival for the Dai and De 'ang people. The Water-splashing Festival is held between June 17th and 19th in Dai calendar, with the seventh day after Tomb-Sweeping Day in the lunar calendar, that is, the middle of April in Gregorian calendar, and it is generally celebrated for 3-7 days. The first day is Dai Lunar New Year's Eve, and every household should clean up. Bu Mao and Bu Shao, dressed in festive costumes, knocked on elephant drums and gongs and went into the mountains in droves to pick "flowers to see", dressed up as watering booths, and the elderly killed chickens and cattle at home, making water-splashing, bait silk and rice noodles, ready to entertain guests. The next day is the New Year's Day of Dai calendar, the first day of the year. On this day, middle-aged and elderly people must go to the temple to listen to the scriptures and bathe the bodhisattva with clean water. The Buddha was asked to recite the scriptures in front of the water splashing pavilion and hold a prayer ceremony. Everyone poured water on the hoses and then poured water on each other to bless them. Dai and De 'ang compatriots believe that water is holy, which can not only wash away filth, exorcise evil spirits, but also eliminate disasters and give people good luck. Nowadays, whenever the festive season comes, it is a great pleasure for guests and friends to get together. The Songkran Festival has become a link and bridge for economic and trade negotiations, promoting exchanges and promoting a win-win situation. Munao Zongge Festival Munao Zongge Festival is the biggest traditional festival of Jingpo people in Ruili. Originally, it was a traditional ritual to drive away evil and promote good, wish good luck and happiness, and celebrate the harvest. The Munao Zongge Festival of Jingpo nationality originated from the legend of the creation hero Ning Guanwa: It is said that a long time ago, only the children of the sun could dance Munao Zongge. Once, the sun god invited everything on earth to attend the Munao Zongge Festival. After the grand event, the birds returned to the earth. On the way, they saw the fruitful fruits in the fruit forest and danced happily in the Sun Palace. Ning Guanwa, the ancestor of Jingpo nationality, heard the news that birds danced in the eyes and sang songs, so she hurried to watch it. He was intoxicated by Munao's chant, so he danced this dance to ornithology. Since then, the "Munao Zongge" in the sky has come to the world. Soon, he organized the first Munao grand meeting at the foot of Sun Moon Mountain (near Qinghai Lake today). The Munao Zongge Festival of Jingpo nationality is generally held after the 15th day of the first lunar month, lasting for 3-7 days. Jingpo is called "Munao" and Zaiwa is called "Zongge", which means everyone dances. During the Munao Zongge Festival, Jingpo men and women dressed in festive costumes gathered in all directions from the mountain village to the venue where Munao Zongge Festival was held to indulge in singing and dancing. Munao longitudinal song and dance is led by two highly respected "Nao Shuang". "Nau Shuang" wore a beautiful peacock crest, accompanied by a beautiful and rough melody, waving a shining silver knife in his hand and leading the dance at the head of the longitudinal song team. Under the guidance of "Nao Shuang", Jingpo people, men, women and children, are singing and dancing while standing on the elephant foot drum and accompanied by "Sambi" and "Bazaar". The "Zongge" team is huge in scale, magnificent in momentum, vigorous in dance steps and orderly in transformation. In the song and dance, it is accompanied by "Oh! Oh! " Cheers, sound everywhere, is a symbol of unity and strength. There is a tall "Munao Shidong" in the center of the dance floor, on which the route of dancing Munao Zongge is engraved. People sang songs around the "Shidong" and stayed up all night. The scene was quite spectacular. The people who take part in the longitudinal songs come from Shiliba Township, with thousands or even tens of thousands of people. Therefore, the longitudinal songs of Munao, a Jingpo ethnic group, are also called "ten thousand people dance".
