Introduction to the ancient town

In 1989, during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, with the construction of Zhuanghe Fort, the Hekou ancient town was born. Facing the Yellow River and backed by mountains, its strategic position in controlling Hexi becomes increasingly obvious. By the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, the agriculture, handicraft industry, commerce, culture, and transportation in the Hekou area were already quite large. During the 400 years in the middle and late Ming Dynasty, Zhuanghebao was the largest commercial port in Lanzhou. Because of its unique geographical location, it was once the "first pass in Gansu".

Distribution of Attractions

In 2008, the ancient buildings of the Ming and Qing Dynasties in Hekou Ancient Town were well preserved. The landmark buildings of the ancient town, such as the Bell and Drum Tower, the Woqiao, the Three Gates, the Fourth Archway, and the gate plaques of the Fourth Street and Seventeenth Alley, have been restored and rebuilt. There are 115 residences along the street and 313 remaining in the core area.

It is reported that Xigu District will focus on four scenic spots with outstanding advantages, including Hekou Ancient Town, Chinese Culture Exhibition Center, Pangu Grand Canyon, and Dachuan Sightseeing Agricultural Park, and will connect with major travel agencies in the province for planning and packaging High-quality tourist routes are promoted to all parts of the province. In addition, tourist routes focusing on ancient towns, water dance performances, and Danxia will be launched to attract more people to Lanzhou and ancient towns.

Viewing and Tour

A few years ago, the mouth of the river was an important port in the "golden waterway" of the Yellow River. Most of the long-distance transportation in the northwest passes here, loading, unloading, and transporting various goods at the ancient wharf of the river mouth. The ancient wharf at the mouth of the river no longer exists, and modern cement building materials occupy the entire ancient wharf at the mouth of the river.

In 2013, Hekou Village was declared as a national historical and cultural village. Unfortunately, it was named Sunshan, but it became a famous historical and cultural village in Gansu Province. At the same time, due to its profound historical and cultural heritage, Hekou Village, together with Jinchengguan, has become an important part of Lanzhou's declaration as a national historical and cultural city. In this way, the desire to rebuild the ancient town of Hekou and protect its history and culture will gradually become a reality.

In early 2014, with the attention of governments at all levels, and after discussions with many tourism, history, and planning experts, the reconstruction planning plan for Hekou Ancient Town was finalized. According to the planning plan, the reconstruction of Hekou Ancient Town mainly includes six aspects: reconstruction, protection, renovation, preservation, maintenance, and restoration, in order to restore the cultural relics and historic sites of Hekou Ancient Town and reflect the cultural characteristics and historical features of the scenic spot.
