Tangqi Ancient Town Travel Guide
Tangqi Town is located in the north of Hangzhou City, bordering Deqing County, Huzhou City, about 20 kilometers away from the urban area and 13 kilometers away from Linping, the seat of the district government. The famous Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal passes through the town and has become an important waterway for Jiangsu, Shanghai, Jiaxing and Huzhou. Tangqi has been the water gateway of Hangzhou since ancient times.
Tangqi Ancient Town Attractions Introduction
Tangqi Ancient Town is located in Yuhang, the starting point of the Hangzhou section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. Passing through the ancient town of the canal, there are quaint old houses on both sides, and there are ancient bridges on the river. Tangqi is famous for its loquats and traditional cakes. Every year in late May, loquats come to Huangshi. It is always lively here, and many Hangzhou people come here to eat loquats.
Current location: This ancient town is an open neighborhood. It is free to visit the old streets, only a few venues charge fees. However, free Guangji Bridge, Qianlong Empire Monument, Crossing Pujing, Canal Barn Museum, etc. It is the essence of the ancient town. They are all genuine historical relics, and the museum is also quite grand, telling the history of Tangqi as an important waterway transportation center.
Shuibei Street and Shuinan Street on both sides of the canal are the main tourist areas of the ancient town. There are many scenic spots in Shuibei Street. Yao Xi's former residence, Tangqi Shuibei Grain Station, Christian Church, and the famous Qianlong Empire Monument are all on the streets along the river. Guangji Bridge, the only seven-hole ancient stone bridge on the Beijing-Hangzhou Canal, spans both sides of the canal. It looks atmospheric from a distance without losing its beauty. It is a must-visit attraction for everyone who comes to Tangqi, and the photos taken can also be called "Tangqi standard photos".
What to see in the ancient town
There are many shops selling pastries and snacks on Shuinan Street opposite Guangji Bridge and in its surrounding neighborhoods. In addition to the original traditional pastries, there are also some cafes and Hangzhou cuisine restaurants. It’s nice to eat and shop at the same time. The most famous local pastries are the cake shop, as well as the mung bean cake and Changxia cake. Until now, many old Hangzhou people go to Tangqi to buy. During loquat season, fruit farmers selling loquats can be seen everywhere in the market near the bridge and even on the roadside. The most expensive Baisha loquat costs about 12 yuan per pound, so it is a good choice to give to relatives and friends. There are some old houses in Alley 3 and a half of Shihe Historic District near Shuinan Street, which are also worth a visit.
