Zhengzhou also has grottoes, which were built at the same time as the Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, but there are almost no tourists.

The four ancient grottoes in China refer to Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, Datong Yungang Grottoes, Luoyang Longmen Grottoes and Tianshui Maijishan Grottoes. The cave temple was built in Xiping in the Northern Wei Dynasty for two years (5 17), which is about 20 years later than the Longmen Grottoes, which is also considered to be the same period, and has a history of 1500 years. Cave Temple was originally named Xixuan Temple, but it was changed to Cave Temple in Qing Dynasty. Cave temples are located in Dali Mountain on the south bank of the Yellow River and the north bank of Luo Yi. Emperor Taizong, Li Shimin and other emperors once worshipped Buddha here.

Nowadays, the whole cave temple is not large in scale. There are 5 grottoes, 0/000 niches/kloc, 255 small niches, 3 cliffs, 7,743 buddhas and more than 200 inscriptions. Like the Longmen Grottoes not far away, many Buddha statues are located in the grottoes, and tourists can only visit but not take pictures. Some Buddha statues are outside the grottoes, so you can take pictures.

These Buddha statues have a history of more than 1000 years and still look very beautiful, but unfortunately, more Buddha statues have been damaged to varying degrees.

The most famous cave temple is a stone carving of "Cixi Li Buddha", and the carved Northern Wei Emperor Xiaowen and Zhao Wen are very precious. It turned out that the Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang also had the same stone carving, which was later stolen and sold to the United States. This ceremonial picture of Empress Dowager Cixi in Gongyi Cave Temple has become the only one in China.

Cave temple statues began in the Northern Wei Dynasty and continued until the Song Dynasty, spanning hundreds of years. The Buddha statues in the Northern Wei Dynasty still retain foreign image characteristics, with deep eyes, high nose and skinny bones. When the cave temple was built, the foreign image had been integrated with the Han art in the Central Plains, and the Buddha statue also appeared Fiona Fang and serene.
