Noun explanation of tourists

tourist: a tourist refers to anyone who travels outside his usual environment and stays for more than 24 hours within one year. His main purpose is not to get paid from the place he visited through his activities.

tourists are the main body of tourism and the basic elements of the three major elements of tourism. Without tourists, natural tourism cannot be realized. Tourists, literally, are tourists, that is, people engaged in tourism activities. Write "Tourist" in English. It means a person who travels for pleasure out of curiosity.

Extended information:

The United Nations Conference on Tourism and Travel held in Rome in p>1963 put forward the definition of "tourist": "The purpose of sightseeing in a country that is not settled by oneself is not to make money, and such a person is a tourist." Tourists can be subdivided into "tourists" and "short-distance tourists".

tourists: temporary tourists who stay in a country for at least 24 hours for entertainment, health care, study, religious belief or sports, in other words, to kill their leisure time, manage, attend meetings or visit relatives.

"short-distance tourists": those who stay in a country for less than 24 hours, including those who travel by sea.

The regulations of the United Nations have been recognized internationally. Countries basically use this standard to count the number of foreign tourists or other tourists. However, there are many inconsistencies in the implementation. For example, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics counts those who leave the state for one night to travel for vacation, but excludes those who travel for business and meetings. In 1978, Spain received 4 million foreign tourists, 9% of whom came from European countries, and many of them came back and forth on the same day, which was also counted.

in p>1967, the United nations statistical commission slightly changed the regulations of 1963, and counted tourists who did not spend the night in a country as "short-distance tourists" or "day tourists". In 1968, the International League of Official Tourism Organizations adopted the provisions of the United Nations in 1963 and adopted such opinions. Tourists are divided into "tourists" and "short-distance tourists". Tourists stay at least one night in the visited country, and short-distance tourists do not stay.

Although the above-mentioned regulations on "tourists" have been adjusted many times, many international scholars still hold different views. For example, H. Robinson of Britain put forward some amendments to the definition of "tourist" in his book "Tourism Geography". He believes: "A tourist should refer to a person who travels from one place to another, and many or even most tourists travel to a destination and stay there for a period of time."

Foreigners, overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao who come to China for sightseeing, visiting relatives, friends, recuperation, investigation or engaging in trade, business, sports, religious activities, attending meetings, etc. are all tourists. As for visiting China, members of delegations with ministers or above, personnel of foreign embassies in China, experts stationed in China, journalists, overseas students, tour guides, overseas Chinese who have returned to settle down, and people who have gone abroad, they can't be regarded as tourists.

Because international tourists play an important role in tourism development, some international tourism institutions and organizations have made different definitions of international tourists for many years.

(1) Definition of the Committee of Statistical Experts of the League of Nations

In p>1937, the Committee of Statistics Experts of the League of Nations defined "international tourists" or "foreign tourists" as "people who left their country of residence and visited another country for more than 24 hours". Specifically, it includes the following personnel:

① people who travel abroad for recreation, entertainment, family affairs and health

② people who travel abroad to attend international conferences or as official representatives of various countries

③ people who travel abroad for business

④ people who visit the shore during the cruise at sea are regarded as tourists even if their stay time is less than 24 hours.
