Pilgrimage to Nanyue to pray for blessings

First of all, because Nanyue is the longevity mountain in China, going to Nanyue can pray for blessings and longevity for the elders in the family. According to the "Star Book": Nanyue Hengshan's corresponding star is the 28-star Zhen. Zhen is responsible for the life span of human beings, so Nanyue is called "Shouyue" and is the mountain that governs longevity. Secondly, Nanyue has the only Martyrs' Shrine in China that is dedicated to commemorating the soldiers who died in the Anti-Japanese War. As a Chinese, you should pay your respects. Third, the main peak of Nanyue is called Zhurong Peak. According to legend, Zhurong was the minister in charge of fire under the Yellow Emperor and was also appointed to manage the affairs of the south. He once lived in Hengshan and was buried in Hengshan. Our Hubei Province belonged to the Chu land in ancient times. The Chu people are a nation that favors fire. They use the fire phoenix as their totem. According to legend, Zhu Rong is the ancestor of the Chu people. As a Chu people, you should pay homage to him. Fourth, Nanyue is a 4A-level scenic spot. As the saying goes, you can’t go back without seeing the mountains after visiting the Five Mountains. Nanyue is one of the mountains closest to Wuhan. Going to Nanyue, on the one hand, you can appreciate the unique and pleasant scenery of Nanyue among the Five Mountains; on the other hand, you can pray for blessings and welcome good luck, and experience the profound cultural heritage of the famous Five Mountains.

Smooth sailing to Hengshan

Because it was a self-guided trip, I made careful planning beforehand and visited the China Nanyue Tourism Hengshan Tourism Network (www.nanyue.net.cn) many times. In order to determine the route and get familiar with the situation, we posted a consultation post on the community forum of the website, and received enthusiastic answers from netizens. We also provided the local tourism complaint phone number. Wuyingdao, a netizen who often participates in the community, is a news The workers were very enthusiastic in providing us with specific bus routes from Hengyang or Hengshan to Nanyue Ancient Town.

The train number we took was searched online. Because Hengyang City is far away from Hengshan and the fare between the two places is more expensive, we chose Hengshan Station (it is Hengshan County Railway Station, Nanyue Hengshan is located in Nanyue Town, Hengyang City). There are no buses passing through Hengshan starting from Hankou, so we can only start from Wuchang. The arrival time of trip 1561 (Wuhan-Zhanjiang) is 9:30 pm. Considering that I don’t want to spend the night in a small county town, I don’t choose this train. The arrival time of trip 2161 (Wuhan-Guangzhou) is around 3:30 pm. Considering that it still takes time to get from Hengshan County to Nanyue Town at the foot of the mountain, it would be evening when we arrived at the foot of the mountain. It would be equivalent to spending a whole day on the road, which was not worthwhile. Therefore, we finally chose 2269 times (Wuchang to Guangzhou). At 6:59 in the morning on October 2, we got on the 2269 train and arrived at Hengshan Station around 1:00 in the afternoon. The entire trip is during the day, and you only need to buy a hard-seat ticket, which is only 36 yuan per person.

Less than 100 meters outside Hengshan Railway Station, there is a bus to Nanyue Town every 10 minutes. It only costs 5 yuan per person. We arrived at Nanyue Town in more than half an hour. 3 o'clock.

Don’t be fooled by the Great Temple Pilgrimage

In order to save time, as soon as we arrived at Nanyue Ancient Town, we hurriedly visited the scenic spots at the foot of the mountain, and first went straight to the Nanyue Great Temple. Each of the Five Mountains has a large temple, which is the most important monument in the area, and Nanyue is no exception. Nanyue Temple is located at the end of North Street in Nanyue Ancient Town. The temple was first built in the 13th year of Kaiyuan of the Tang Dynasty. After six fires and reconstruction and expansion, it established its current scale.

The Nanyue Temple is large in scale, with seven courtyards at the front and rear. The third entrance is a city-gate-style three-hole gate. The middle is called the Zhengchuan Gate. Inside the gate is an exquisite and unique imperial stele pavilion. In the forty-seventh year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi (1708), there is a complaint inscribed by the holy ancestor Kangxi himself in order to rebuild the Nanyue Temple. The sixth entrance is the main hall. In front of the hall is a large flat. The main hall stands on 17 stone steps. The stone steps in the middle are inlaid with white marble dragon reliefs. The main hall is more than 7 feet high. It is a mountain top building with double eaves. It is perfect both inside and outside. There are 72 large stone pillars, symbolizing the 72 peaks of Nanyue. The roof of the temple is covered with orange-yellow glazed tiles, which in the feudal era was only enjoyed by imperial temples. The interior and exterior of the hall are decorated with swords, big and small dragons, and figures from the Eight Immortals. There are copper bells hanging from the four corners of the eaves. The window lattice and wall panels under the eaves are all carved with various characters, stories, flowers, trees, birds, and beasts. The back wall is painted with large clouds, dragons, and dragons. Danfeng. The steps of the main hall are surrounded by granite railings. The pillars are carved with lions, unicorns, elephants and horses. There are 144 white marble double-sided reliefs embedded in the railings. The hall is dedicated to Emperor Nanyue, who was named "King Si Tianhuo" in the early Tang Dynasty, "Zhenjun Nanyue" in the Kaiyuan Dynasty, and "Holy Emperor Si Tianzhao" in the Song Dynasty, etc.

The Nanyue Hall we see now is said to have been rebuilt in the style of the Forbidden City in Beijing in the eighth year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1882). It is the largest ancient palace-style temple with the most complete overall layout among the Five Sacred Mountains in my country.

Nanyue Temple Main Hall

Nanyue Temple ticket is 20 yuan/person. Please note that there are many people selling cigarettes and candles near Dayue. Please do not buy them and ignore them. Because these cigarettes and candles are said to cost dozens of yuan each, but if you talk to them, they will pester you, saying that there are eight Bodhisattvas in the temple, and if you want to buy them, you have to buy eight copies, which is a big deal for you. More than four hundred yuan is not negotiable. There are many similar complaints about Hengshan on the Internet.

If you arrive early and don’t stay in the temple for too long, and it’s still early in the day, you can also visit Zhusheng Temple. Zhusheng Temple is not far from the temple. The ticket price is 3 yuan/person. Zhusheng Temple is one of the five major jungles of Nanyue Buddhism. It has a very long history. It was first built in the Tang Dynasty. It was built and abandoned several times in history. It was once converted into a Taoist temple. In the Qing Dynasty, it was listed as the palace of Kangxi during his southern tour of Hengshan. Kangxi did not come to Hengshan for some reason, so the local officials changed its name to Zhusheng Temple on the occasion of Kangxi's 60th birthday. Like our Guiyuan Temple in Wuhan, the highlight of Zhusheng Temple is also its Arhat Hall. It is said that the five hundred Arhats here were completed by a monk named Xinyue who was good at carving in three years. However, when we went there, because I stayed too long at Nanyue Temple, we were not able to visit Zhusheng Temple on the evening of October 2nd.

Overnight at the foot of the mountain for return trip

On the evening of October 2, we stayed at the Yinyuan Hotel at the foot of the mountain. This is a two-star hotel run by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China of Hunan Province. The fee is 200 yuan/standard room. Across the street from this hotel is the tourist market and snack night market. The tourist products in Nanyue are not special. I personally recommend not to buy them. Of course, you should take a souvenir back to prove that you have visited here. It's best to eat dinner on the street, as hotels are more expensive. The snacks are the same as those in Wuhan, mainly barbecue, and stinky tofu has Hunan characteristics.

Here I would like to remind everyone that it is difficult to go back during the Golden Week because the Hengshan Railway Station is a small county-level station with very few trains, so you have to take a train to Hengyang City when you return. . In order to avoid any problems, everyone can book tickets at the Silver Garden Hotel. When I booked the tickets, they actually charged me a booking fee of 30 yuan per ticket. It was really shameful. There are buses from Hengyang to Wuchang or Hankou, but except for the K186 from Hengyang to Beijing West, they are all passing buses. Generally, you cannot buy seats on the passing buses, so try to book K186. The fare of K186 is 67 yuan. /people. If you can't book it because it's Golden Week, you can only book a passing bus. Depending on the time of booking, you need to adjust your itinerary accordingly.

Because I want to watch the sunrise, I will stay at the top of the mountain on October 3, so the first thing I do when I arrive at Nanyue is to call Shangfeng Temple to book accommodation, because Shangfeng Temple is far away from the best viewing location. The sun-watching platform is the closest. If Shangfeng Temple is full, you can also book Gaotai Temple or Shixian Pavilion. There are also hotels on the top of the mountain, but they are at least 50% more expensive than those at the bottom.

Get up early and hike up the mountain

On the morning of October 3, the couple got up early and had Hunan rice noodles and tofu pudding on the street for breakfast. After breakfast, go to the ticket office of the mountain and buy a ticket for 81 yuan/person (1 yuan is insurance, this is a pass. Basically, there is no charge for attractions on the mountain, except for the Vajra Relic Pagoda, which is 5 yuan/person, and the mysterious cave, which is 10 yuan/person). Then buy a tourist bus ticket for 25 yuan per person. This bus goes from the ticket office to Nantianmen. The bus extension line stops at the following attractions, Martyrs' Shrine - Chuanyan Poetry Forest - Banshan Pavilion - Magu Fairyland - Mojing Terrace - Fuyan Temple - Folk Culture City - Sutra Collection Hall - Nantianmen.

Martyrs’ Shrine

Martyrs’ Shrine was completed in 1942. It is the only large-scale martyr cemetery in mainland my country that commemorates the fallen soldiers of the Anti-Japanese War and is a key national cultural relic protection unit. There are archways, "Juqi" memorial tower, memorial hall, tribute monument, enjoyment hall, etc. built in the temple. Above the Martyrs' Shrine is the memorial forest for Chiang Kai-shek's tour of Nanyue. It is flanked by green mountains and surrounded by towering ancient pines, tightly surrounding the entire building in the mountains. There are 13 large-scale martyrs' mausoleums in the ***, where the remains of the anti-Japanese soldiers killed in the Ninth War Zone are buried. The red leaves at Chungryeolsa Shrine are very beautiful.

Shi remembers that there are dozens of calligraphers’ works in Chuanyan Poetry Forest. The Magu Fairyland corresponds to the legend of Magu offering her birthday, and Mojingtai is the place where Chiang Kai-shek lived when he visited Nanyue. Although Fuyan Temple is small, it is one of the top ten jungles of Buddhism and a sacred place for the transmission of the Southern Buddhism in China. The beauty of the Tibetan Sutra Hall is one of the Four Wonders of Nanyue. It was first built in the 6th century AD. During the Southern and Northern Dynasties, it was named the Tibetan Sutra Hall because Zhu Yuanzhang, the emperor of the Ming Dynasty, gave a copy of the Tripitaka and hid it here. Meals on the mountain are expensive, so it is recommended to bring your own dry food. Please note that there are several types of tourist buses, some of which are non-stop direct buses to scenic spots along the route. Please be careful not to get on the wrong one. Don’t linger on the scenic spots along the line for too long, so as not to spend too much time, especially in places with too many modern artificial traces such as Chuanlin Shiyan and National Culture City.

It was already afternoon when we arrived at Nantianmen. There was a bus to Zhurong Peak for 10 yuan/person round trip. Since we were not planning to go down the mountain that day, we bought a one-way ticket for 5 yuan/person. Climbing Zhurong Peak, you can have a panoramic view of the seventy-two peaks of Nanyue. This is another one of the four wonders of Nanyue, the height of Zhurong. There is Zhurong Hall on Zhurong Peak, and there is Huixian Bridge outside the hall. This is the most dangerous place in the entire Hengshan Mountain. It is located between two rocks. Those who are timid and afraid of heights must not try to walk. It is dangerous to fall. .

Because we were able to save time when going up the mountain, we still had time to visit Shangfeng Temple and Gaotai Temple. The ancient pines at Gaotai are worth seeing.

If you want to watch the sunrise, you have to live on the top of the mountain. And even if you don’t watch the sunrise, you won’t be able to go down the mountain that day. You must at least live on the mountainside. Accommodation on the mountainside is cheaper than on the top of the mountain, and there are also small farmhouses. , but we still stayed at Shangfeng Temple on the top of the mountain. Listening to the evening drums and morning bells can also calm our minds. But this quiet flower cost another 160 yuan. I spent the most unforgettable birthday in my life on the thousand-year-old Nanyue Mountain. According to Chinese tradition, my wife specially made me a bowl of instant noodles as longevity noodles.

Watching the Sunrise in Autumn with Water Curtain

On October 4th, the young couple got up before dawn and went straight to the sunrise platform to watch the sunrise. Watching the sunrise in autumn is a beautiful scene in Hengshan. As long as the weather is good, the sunrise in the sea of ??clouds in Hengshan will be unforgettable for you. If you are good enough, you might as well take a photo with a camera or camcorder, which is of great commemorative value. You must get up early to watch the sunrise. It is best to use your mobile phone as an alarm clock. The best place to watch it is the sunrise platform, which is very close to Shangfeng Temple where we live. After watching the sunrise, don’t linger and quickly go down the mountain.

Go down from Zhurong Peak to Nantianmen and take the ropeway to Banshan Pavilion. The fare is 25 yuan/person. You have to come down quickly, otherwise there will be too many people and you will have to wait to take the ropeway. We came down early and there was no queue. Afterwards, we walked down the mountain, and we didn’t make too many stops as we had basically visited the scenic spots along the way the day before. After going down the mountain, have lunch, and then go to Shuiliandong. Remember to ask the price before taking the bus, otherwise the driver will deliberately take a long way. The journey is about 4 kilometers and costs about 10 yuan one way. You can also take a shuttle bus. This is one of the four wonders of Nanyue. Tickets are 21 yuan/person. Shuiliandong is said to be the place where Emperor Zhuling lived, and Taoism calls it Zhulingdongtian. This is actually a waterfall and the scenery is very good.

I walked back from Shuiliandong and passed by Zhusheng Temple and had dinner here. As a famous religious mountain with both Buddhism and Taoism, Nanyue’s vegetarian food is really not bad. After dinner, we stayed at the Zhusheng Temple. There were no double rooms here, so the couple had to live separately. However, it was cheap and only cost 60 yuan per person. If you have time and interest, you can visit Wanshou Advertising and Shouding. Tickets are 10 yuan per person, but the modern artificial landscape is boring, so I recommend not to go.

The couple both took care of the house

On October 5th, I got up early in the morning. Haha, I got up early again. Traveling is actually quite hard. There is no other way, I have to catch the train today. The road from Zhusheng Temple to Nanyue Station is not close, so you have to walk quickly. You can have breakfast on the way. Because it is farther from Nanyue to Hengyang than from Hengshan to Nanyue, it takes more than an hour by car. The train leaves at 12:46 noon. To be safe, we have to arrive at the train station before 12 o'clock and arrive at Hengyang City at 10:30. Before 9 o'clock, we arrived at Nanyue Bus Station. Take a bus from Nanyue Bus Station to Hengyang, the fare is 13 yuan/person. After getting off the bus, take bus No. 1 to Hengyang Railway Station.

Go to the store to buy some snacks for lunch. Don’t eat near the train station. It’s expensive and unhygienic. Please pay attention to safety when checking in and entering the station. The public security situation in Hengyang is not very good. Getting on the train back home, I closed my eyes to rest and recover from the fatigue of the journey, while recalling the scenic spots I had visited in the past few days. I seemed to be sleeping but not sleeping. When it got dark, a familiar name came from the train announcement, " Comrade passengers, Hankou Railway Station has arrived." Looking at the watch, it was just after 7:30 pm. Wuhan, my home, I am back.
