The western province is high in the north and low in the middle, and consists of plateaus, mountains, plains and basins, of which the Loess Plateau accounts for 40% of the province's land area, spanning two major water systems of the Yellow River and the Yangtze River and three major climatic zones. The general characteristics of the climate are: warm and dry in spring, less precipitation, rapid and unstable temperature rise, windy and dusty weather; Summer is hot and rainy, with occasional summer drought; Autumn is cool and humid, and the temperature drops rapidly; Winter is cold and dry, with low temperature and scarce rain and snow.
The annual average temperature in the whole province is 9- 16℃, decreasing from south to north and from east to west. The annual average temperature in northern Shaanxi is 7- 12℃, Guanzhong 12- 14℃, and southern Shaanxi 14- 16℃. The annual average precipitation is 340-1240mm.
