Suzhou is not a provincial administrative district, but a municipal administrative district. It is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province.

Suzhou City, known as Wu in ancient times and simply Su, also known as Gusu, Pingjiang, etc., is a national historical and cultural city, a scenic tourist city, a national high-tech industrial base, and one of the important central cities in the Yangtze River Delta.

Suzhou is located in the middle of the Yangtze River Delta and in the southeast of Jiangsu Province. It is located between 119°55′～121°20′ east longitude and 30°47′～32°02′ north latitude.
