It was near dusk in Cooper Pedy, and we drove to the mountain, and the town was unobstructed. Some simple shops, museums and hotels are regarded as the city center here, and the surrounding hills should be mounds pushed up by mining. Where there are mounds, there are pits, so there is also a famous warning sign "Beware of potholes".

Check in, stay at the hotel first, and stay at the expected underground backpack inn tonight. I have stayed in many backpacking inns, but this is the first time to live underground. There is a great temperature difference between day and night in the desert, but the underground temperature is so comfortable. No wonder the residents here live like this.

After putting down our luggage, we wandered aimlessly around the town, but the most beautiful scenery we saw was not the buildings here, but the sunset that reflected the red sky. There are no obstacles such as tall buildings, and the desert and pink sky are beautiful.

There are three churches here, all underground, open 24 hours a day. You can visit them at will, just remember to turn off the lights and close the door when you leave. Serbian Orthodox Church is the largest church. Its front is a stone wall around the hill. The mottled stone wall looks like a natural structure, and with a few symmetrical pieces of glass, I wonder what this building would look like without a cross and a "welcome" sign.

Because it's just after seven o'clock in the morning and there are no tourists, we quietly pushed open the door and went in. This is a downward slope. At the end, you will see a small auditorium with stained glass, which can only accommodate about 20 people. Because there is a solemn and mysterious atmosphere underground.

After visiting the church, we must drive the car back to Alice Springs and return it to the car rental company. In just two days and one night, there are many small surprises in the town that we can't see. As for whether it is worth visiting all the way here, I will choose to experience the scenery that I can't see every day compared with ordinary shopping in the city center.
