Shangri-La is a city under the jurisdiction of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province. Shangri-La, alias Shambhala and Paradise on Earth, is the city and capital of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province. It is connected to Daocheng County and Muli County in Sichuan Province in the east, across the Jinsha River from Yulong County, Weixi County and Deqin County in Lijiang City in Yunnan Province in the southeast, and adjacent to Derong County and Xiangcheng County in Sichuan Province in the northwest.

Shangri-La is located in the east of the vertical valley of Sanjiang in Hengduan Mountains on the southeast edge of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
