Study and life

The University of Sheffield has the largest student union in the UK. The Sheffield Student Union has always been the best and most influential student union in British universities. Always ranked first in the "Student Union Rankings of British Universities", all students automatically become members of the University of Sheffield Student Union. The Student Union is the center of student life. In order to fully meet students' interests, it sponsors more than 140 societies, such as drama, dance, music, photography and creative writing. Other student associations include the China Association and the Chinese Students and Scholars Association.

In the evening, various social activities such as live band performances are held in the student union building. The indoor cinema screens movies regularly throughout the year. International student officers also organize various other events. The current international student officers are international students elected by international students and represent the interests of international students. The most notable campus events each year are International Food Night and International Culture Night.

The main building of the Student Union contains many ancillary areas, such as the student union office, two beer bars (BarOne, TheInterval), three clubhouses, two coffee shops (CoffeeRevolution and CostaCofe), a cinema and its ticketing centre, a supermarket run by the Students' Union, souvenir kiosks, charity bazaar (Oxfam), student sports team offices, photocopy shop, bank (NatWest, National Westminster Bank), and Student Union Services Centre. The offices of freely formed student associations, including the National Student Federation, are also located here.

The school is also known for its popular sports culture. In addition to the teams sponsored by the student union, there are also a number of student-run teams, such as hockey teams, which belong to the Group A level in British university hockey. The University of Sheffield holds more than 30 friendly matches every year with Sheffield Hallam University, also in Sheffield, called Varsity challenges. With the Peak District National Park so close by, the Students' Union also organizes a 50-mile hike every year, which includes night hiking in the mountains.

With a fiscal deficit and the third-highest fundraising in history, we completed a school-wide strategic plan - "Thinking Forward". The plan prioritizes cooperation between disciplines and expresses a desire to promote the school's more international development.
