Why are brothels called "places of fireworks"?

China's 5,000-year-old civilization is soup, and the brothel culture is alive and well. Actually, referring to brothels is not accurate. In my recent study notes, it was written in black and white: "brothel" originally refers to the residence of the emperor. In Yuan Mei's Poems with the Garden in Qing Dynasty, he said: "Emperor Wu of Qi painted blue paint on the starlight building, which is called brothel", and pointed out: "It is wrong to regard brothel as brothel now." It can be seen that the brothel was originally the residence of the emperor. Therefore, during the Three Kingdoms period, Cao Zhi wrote a poem: "The brothel faces the street, and the high door is closed." The earliest name of a brothel comes from the poem "Picking Mulberry on Wanshan Mountain" written by Liu Miao of Nanliang, which contains the content that "prostitutes are too worried to leave brothels". The "brothel" in the sentence is because of the misinformation of the predecessors. Since then, scholars have misrepresented brothels as "brothels". Therefore, in the Han and Wei dynasties, the word brothel should be a compliment.

The word "brothel" originally meant "a building decorated with blue paint". It can be seen that at first, it was not a brothel, but a more gorgeous house, and sometimes it was even synonymous with giants. For example: Fu Xuan's "Ge Yanxing": the brothel is close to the lane, and the pylorus is pivoted; Jiang Yan's "Xizhou Qu": Hong Fei filled Xizhou, and Wang Lang went to the brothel.

But because "gorgeous house" has something to do with gorgeous and luxurious life. So unconsciously, the meaning of brothels has changed, and they began to be associated with prostitutes. After the Tang dynasty, the meaning of partial reference became a special reference, especially the place where fireworks were set off. In the Yuan Dynasty, there was a book that recorded the life story of prostitutes, called "Collection of Brothels". In the Ming Dynasty, there was a book "Rhyme of a brothel", which was actually the name change of Gone with the Wind. In the Qing Dynasty, there was a narrow and evil novel called Dream of a Brothel.

In fact, the scenery of brothels can be recorded in detail from the Tang Dynasty. The most famous "red light district" in Chang 'an, Tang Dou is in Pingkangli, which is also called "Beili" because it is close to the north gate. Later generations took Pingkang and Beili as pronouns of brothels. Compared with Chang 'an, Yangzhou's brothel scenery is more charming and affectionate, which has been sung by many poets such as Du Mu. At that time, brothels were generally small in scale, and most of them were led by a pimp and two prostitutes and maids.

In the Song Dynasty, the scale of brothels expanded. Meng Yuan's Dream of China in Tokyo records that there were eight entertainment places in the capital of Song Dynasty-Wazi. According to the careful Old Wulin Story, there are 33 buildings in Lin 'an. Brothel equipment has also begun to compete for luxury. Italian traveler horse? Bok? Luo also recorded the brothel scenery in Hangzhou at that time. In the Ming Dynasty, there was a famous "16th Floor" in the brothel of Nanjing, and the paddle lights on the Qinhuai River were brilliant. Linqing, Shandong Province, according to Jin Ping Mei, there are thirty-six Hualiu Lane and seventy-two Guanxian Building. When the business of Datong brothel in Shanxi was sluggish, the number of registered people was as high as 2000. By the Ming Dynasty, the scenery of brothels was already quite beautiful and indecent. There have been many naked "private nests" and "kilns" for physical transactions. In the Qing Dynasty, brothels became a complete world of private prostitutes, prostitutes stopped trying to improve their artistic accomplishment, and clients didn't understand the real customs at all. The "Eight Hutong" in the capital Beijing represents the decline of traditional brothels. However, in Shanghai and Guangzhou in the south, the phenomenon of western-style or mixed-race brothels began to appear.

The specific service mode of brothels is nothing but door-to-door and waiting. Home users need to "call a note" or "call a bureau". There are many rules for waiting, such as "ordering scented tea" when you first board a brothel and "fooling around" after the Qing Dynasty. Official prostitutes belong to the property of the government and cannot be transferred with officials. The rules of brothels have their own evolution and variation with the development of the times, but generally there must be a "gradual" process, not only to set off the atmosphere, cultivate feelings, stimulate passion, but also to make more money, which also includes an emphasis on human dignity and value. We should try our best to cover up the smell of copper with elegant tenderness and make the transaction artistic. Many brothel rules spread to the society, affecting other industries.
