A hotel is a place that provides accommodation and catering services for passengers. Tourist hotel refers to a comprehensive enterprise that can receive domestic and foreign guests and provide accommodation, food, shopping, entertainment and other services for their travel. Internationally renowned tourist hotels generally refer to hotels set up in tourist resorts and mainly serving tourists; With the long-term change of tourism, the utilization rate of other hotels has been low in peak season. Generally speaking, hotels are places that provide services to passengers mainly through rooms and restaurants. With the development of economy and the improvement of people's living standards, the demand of tourists is constantly improving and increasing, and the requirements for hotels are getting higher and higher, and the characteristics of hotel comprehensive services are becoming more and more prominent.

There are no uniform rules and standards for the classification of hotels, and there are no strict boundaries. This is just a routine. The classification of hotels depends on the location, grade, system, tourist market, management mode, scale, operation mode and other factors. The main categories are as follows:

(1) European and American classification

According to the book Introduction to Tourism Hotel Management written by James R. Kaiser, there are several ways to classify hotels:

1. According to the different reception objects of hotels, hotels are divided into five categories: business hotels, long-term hotels, holiday hotels, apartment hotels and motels.

2. According to the hotel pricing method, there are European hotels, American hotels, improved American hotels, European hotels and Bermuda hotels.

European-style hotel: refers to the hotel room price including only the rent, excluding food, drinks and other expenses. Most hotels in the world belong to this category.

American-priced hotels: the room price includes rent and the cost of breakfast, lunch and dinner for one day. At present, there are still some remote resort hotels that still fall into this category.

Modify the US-priced hotels: The prices of such hotels include rent and breakfast, as well as lunch or dinner, so that guests have greater freedom to arrange activities during the day.

European hotel: the room rate includes rent and a simple continental breakfast, namely coffee, bread and juice. This kind of hotel generally does not have a restaurant.

Bermuda Price Hotel: The room rate of this kind of hotel includes rent and American breakfast.

(2) Classification of hotels in China.

According to the national conditions of China, the comprehensive factors of hotels can be roughly divided into:

1. Business Hotel: It is characterized by mainly business guests and individual travelers, high-grade hotel, complete facilities, high housing prices, and its geographical location is close to the city center or commercial and financial center.

2. Tourist hotels: mainly used to receive tourist teams and conferences, with high or low hotel grades and moderate prices. The hotel takes accommodation as the center and guest rooms as the main body.

3. Compound hotel: This kind of hotel is often either a building or a pure hotel, but there are other facilities such as shopping malls, office buildings, exhibition halls and training centers in a building, and the hotel is only a part of this building. This kind of hotel is generally low-grade and compatible with customers.

4. Holiday hotels: mainly receive holiday tourists, among which family tourists account for a considerable proportion. Hotels are generally far away from the city center and commercial center, in the suburbs or browsing holiday resorts. The hotel mainly focuses on entertainment, leisure, catering, recreation and other contents, and the guest room is not the main part.

5. State Guesthouse Hotel: featuring the reception of state guests. Hotels are generally not in the city center. Hotel buildings are mainly low-rise villas with large gardens. The hotel does not receive ordinary guests, nor does it receive them selectively, which makes it easier to implement security work.

6. Internal reception hotel: a hotel generally invested and built by a system or enterprise. The purpose of investors' investment in hotels is to meet a large number of business contacts and meeting needs of this system and this enterprise. At the same time receive ordinary guests.
