According to the memories of local elders, there were still temples and temple ruins at the beginning of liberation, and ancient ginkgo was well known. There is even a folklore that the ginkgo tree in Yuantong Temple will attract birds such as orioles, magpies, Chinese Pulsatilla, thrushes, parrots, sparrows and owls to live in it for many years, and build nests on the tree layer by layer. Especially in the early winter, golden fans hung all over the branches and floated down with the wind, adding a distant and ancient atmosphere to the quiet Confucius Temple.
"Zhuangzi Fisherman's Chapter" said: "Confucius swam in the curtain forest (that is, only black, under the guise of place names) and stopped at the apricot altar. Disciples read books and bore bullets and drums. " In the second year of Tiansheng (1024), when Daofu Kong, the forty-fifth grandson of Confucius, supervised the repair of the Confucius Temple, he moved the site to an altar and planted apricots around it, which was called the apricot altar. Therefore, since then, "Xingtan" has become synonymous with the holy land of education. The "apricot" mentioned here is not apricot tree, but ginkgo.
