In June 2002, the former School of Performing Arts of Shanghai Normal University merged, and Shanghai Opera School and Shanghai Dance School became affiliated schools.

At present, the school has four campuses: Huashan Road Campus is the location of performance department, director department, drama literature department, stage art department, music performance art center and creative college, and its future function is positioned as drama art education center. Hongqiao Road Campus, located in Shanghai International Dance Center, officially opened in March 20 17. The existing dance academy and affiliated dance school will be the dance education center in the future.
