Topography Songyang County is located in the mountains of southern Zhejiang. The entire territory is dominated by medium and low hills and hills, surrounded by mountains on all sides. The central basin is called "Songgu Plain" because of its openness and flatness. Also known as the "Songgu Basin", it is the main grain-producing area in the county. The terrain is high in the northwest and low in the southeast. Of the total area, mountainous land accounts for 76%, cultivated land accounts for 8%, and waters and other areas account for 16%. It is called "eight mountains, one water, and one farmland". Songyin River, a tributary of the Oujiang River, runs diagonally across the Songgu Plain from northwest to southeast, with a length of 66.5 kilometers and a drainage area of ??1,302 square kilometers, accounting for 92.6% of the total area. The Xianxialing Mountains meander through Songnan, Songbei, Songzhong and Songxi. The main peaks include Ruoxian, Baoshantou, Liumingjian and Gaozhijian, which are distributed in Songnan, Songbei, Songzhong and Songxi.

Hydrological conditions The rivers in Songyang County belong to the Oujiang River system, mainly including Songyin Creek and Xiaogang Creek, which meander from the northwest and southwest to the southeast respectively. Songyin River is a first-class tributary of Daxi in the upper reaches of Oujiang River. It originates from Ankou Township, Suichang County, flows through 60.5km of the county, and divides the Songgu Basin from north to south. The watershed area accounts for 92.55% of the county's area. In addition, some small mountain streams in Sidu, Sandu and Banqiao Townships flow into Xuanping Port; some mountain streams in Dadongba Town and Fengping Township flow into Longquan Creek, accounting for 7.45% of their drainage area.

The county's water system is dominated by Songyin Creek and Xiaogang. There are many mountain creeks that twist and turn in the high mountains. Most of them have short sources and rapid flows. The rivers are narrow and shallow, with large slopes. The flow is obviously controlled by precipitation. The water level is easy to rise and fall, with great differences between floods and droughts. Most of them are mountain rivers.

Natural resources The metal minerals discovered in the county include lead, zinc, silver, iron, molybdenum, tungsten, etc. The non-metallic minerals include coal, kaolin, illite, china clay, bentonite, fluorite, and alunite. , pyrophyllite, muscovite, granite, etc. Kaolin, coal, fluorite, granite, copper, molybdenum and other minerals have been mined and utilized. The kaolin mine has excellent quality and abundant reserves. The county kaolin company’s annual mining volume is more than 50,000 tons.
