The novel "A Village Ruled by Idiots" was published by Times Literature and Art Publishing House in October 2002. It was called "One Hundred Years of Solitude" in the 21st century by critics. Hong himself is known as one of the representative writers of the "new generation" of the 21st century.

The novella "The Family Privacy of Diao Min Li Mengxing" was published in the fifth issue of "Fangcao" and won the 2002 Fangcao Literary Award. At the same time, "Jingzhou Evening News" opened five special pages to discuss the novel. Fan Xing, Qian Pengxi, Huang Darong and others made special comments on the novel.
