Which province is Zhangjiajie?

Zhangjiajie belongs to Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province.

Zhangjiajie, formerly known as Dayong City, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province. Located in the northwest of Hunan Province, at the junction of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau uplift and Dongting Lake subsidence area, it is adjacent to Shimen County and Taoyuan County in the east, Yuanling County in the south and Hefeng and Xuanen County in Hubei Province in the north. The total area is 9653 square kilometers. Zhangjiajie has two municipal districts and two counties, namely Yongding County, Wulingyuan District, Cili County and Sangzhi County.

Zhangjiajie is a picturesque tourist city. With 3,000 peaks and 800 beautiful waters, it is known as "enlarged bonsai, reduced fairyland" and "the highest scenery on the ground". It has the first batch of world natural heritages in China, the first batch of world geological parks, the world's "Zhangjiajie landform" named place, the first national forest park in China, the first batch of 5A-level tourist attractions in China and the "six gold business cards" of national civilized scenic spots.

The origin of Zhangjiajie's name

The name Zhangjiajie was first seen in the preface to Zhang's Genealogy in the fourth year of Chongzhen in Ming Dynasty (163 1). The author of the preface is the sixth generation grandson of Zhang Wancong, the governor of Yongding.

During the Hongzhi period of the Ming Dynasty (1488- 1506), the court saw that Zhang Wancong had made meritorious service in guarding the country and gave him the "land of mountains and forests" in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park as a fief. So he went up the mountain with his family to run his business. This area became Zhang's hereditary territory and was called "Zhangjiajie".

By the end of the 20th century, descendants of Zhang had lived here for generations 17, with a population of nearly 1,000. Another way of saying it is: According to legend, Sean, Liu Hou of the Western Han Dynasty, lived here in seclusion, and was buried in the Four Gates of Water Ring after his death, so he was called Zhangjiajie for a long time.
