Nanping City is located in the north of Fujian Province, commonly known as northern Fujian, and its geographical position is between east longitude 1 17 00' and north latitude 1 19 25' and north latitude 26 30'.

Nanping is adjacent to Jiangshan, Longquan and Qingyuan counties (cities) in Zhejiang Province in the northeast, Zixi, Qianshan and Guangfeng counties (cities) in Jiangxi Province in the northwest, Minqing County in Fuzhou City and Gutian, Pingnan, Zhouning and Shouning counties in Ningde City in the southeast, and Taining, Jiangle, Shaxian and Youxi counties in Sanming City in the southwest.

The maximum distance from east to west in Nanping city is about 230 kilometers, and the maximum distance from north to south is about 230.4 kilometers. The northernmost part is Ocean in Lu Guan Township, Pucheng County, the southernmost part is Malinkeng in Zhang Hu Town, Yanping District, the easternmost part is Fengcha in Zhenqian Town, Zhenghe County, and the westernmost part is Toukeng Pass in Li Fang Township, Guangze County. The total land area of the jurisdiction is 26,300 square kilometers, accounting for 39.83 million mu, which is the largest municipal district in Fujian Province.
