Zhang Wentian Pudong former residence

Address: Group 9, Dengsan Village, Zhu Qiao Town, Pudong New Area, Shanghai, 1900. Zhang Wentian was born in Zhangjiazhai, Dengsan Village, Nanhui County, Jiangsu Province (now Zhu Qiao Town, Pudong New Area).

Zhang Wentian's former residence is a residential building with the characteristics of Jiangnan residence. There is a main room on one side and a wing room on both sides, with brick and wood structure facing south. There are carvings of ancient officials on the roof, which shows that the owner of the house has a high status. There are five main rooms, two wings on both sides, four miscellaneous rooms outside the west wing and thirteen rooms.

First build the main house, then the wing house, and then the miscellaneous house. In the middle of the former residence is a courtyard paved with blue bricks. There is a wooden door pavilion in front, which was called scholar pavilion in ancient times. There is a plaque inscribed by Comrade Chen Yun on the pavilion. There are two vegetable fields in front of the museum, surrounded by green fences. There used to be a residential river ditch behind the house, with flowing water. There are agricultural tools such as bamboo, green trees and waterwheels beside the ditch. With the change of years, Zhaihe gully gradually formed a small gully like an inkstone, which is now called an inkstone gully. Shuigou is a place where Zhang Wentian often studied and played with his friends when he was a teenager. In the middle of the main room is the living room, called Xiaoyoutang, where the Zhang family invited their relatives and friends to get together and discuss. On the right is the bedroom, which displays a big bed of clothes and wood, printed grass bed nets, dressing table, foot box, open kitchen and other furniture. This is where Zhang Wentian was born and lived as a teenager. Stationery supplies such as wooden beds, desks, bookshelves, pens, ink, paper and inkstones are displayed in the study. This is the place where Zhang Wentian studied as a teenager. The former residence has a building area of ***488 square meters and an area of 686 square meters.

Zhang Wentian is an outstanding Marxist, proletarian revolutionary, politician and theorist of our Party. In his glorious life, whether he was in a high position, dismissed from office in Lushan Mountain or banned during the Cultural Revolution, he was open-minded, selfless and loyal to the revolution. He lived a frugal life with fame and fortune. His son Zhang Hongsheng, who works in the library of Nanjing University, has been unknown for decades. Before he died, Zhang Wentian handed over all the 40,000 yuan he had saved over the years, leaving no money for his children.

1979, three years after Zhang Wentian's wrongful death, the CPC Central Committee held a grand memorial service for Zhang Wentian. Deng Xiaoping delivered a eulogy on behalf of the Central Committee, fully affirming Zhang Wentian's achievements in the history of China.

1September, 1985, the Shanghai Municipal People's Government allocated special funds to repair Zhang Wentian's former residence, which is now listed as a tourist attraction recommended by Shanghai Tourism Bureau.
