What should you pay attention to when traveling to Mount Wutai?

Notes:

Wutai Mountain is a holy land of Buddhism. Regardless of whether you believe in Buddhism or not, you must follow the local customs, keep quiet, and prohibit loud noises. Temple rules should be respected in temples.

2. If you come to Mount Wutai just for tourism, try to avoid vendors selling incense. If you don’t want to buy it, don’t just reach out and take it. Sometimes it is difficult to get rid of the other party’s entanglement.

3. Be prepared with change. There are no shops or kiosks between Wutai. Change is required for eating, lodging, and praying for merit. However, if you are willing to put a large amount into the merit box, of course no one will object.

4. During the journey, you will meet many local people who will give you some gold protection cards and say they have been blessed. When encountering this situation, it is best not to accept it, otherwise you will ask for some happy money.

If you are hiking, the things you need to bring are as follows:

1. Backpack: 30-40 liters (if you are camping, the capacity will be larger). The bag must be shoulder-sized. It’s good to have a belt and rain cover, so walking is effortless and can protect you from rain. If possible, just buy a professional mountaineering bag.

2. Clothes: Do not use cotton underwear, and be sure to choose quick-drying clothes that do not absorb water. You must bring fleece. Even in the hot summer season of July and August, the top of Mount Wutai is very cold in the morning and evening. It is best to wear a jacket that is windproof and waterproof. You also need to bring a thin down jacket in spring and autumn, and no matter how thick a down jacket is in winter, it’s not too much.

3. Shoes and hats: High-top hiking shoes are the best choice, which can effectively protect ankles and prevent sprains. When buying shoes, be sure to choose ones with waterproof properties and a larger size than what you usually wear. Don’t buy shoes that fit just right or pinch your feet, because your feet will swell after hiking for a long time. The requirements for the hat are not high, as long as it can prevent wind, but it must have a windproof rope, otherwise when the wind blows, it will fly away and cannot be found.

4. Trekking poles and knee pads: The scientific and reasonable use of trekking poles can reduce the stress on the legs and knees, and can exercise the arm strength of the upper limbs and play a balancing role. Always use double trekking poles, never a single pole. Knee pads can effectively protect the knees when going down the mountain and prevent knee joint wear. They must be used when climbing long distances, especially when going down the mountain.

5. Poncho and headlamp: The climate in Wutai Mountain is changeable, and you may encounter rain and fog at any time, so a raincoat is a must. When buying a poncho, it’s best to get one that can even cover your backpack to prevent it from getting wet from the rain. If you want to spend the night on the top of a mountain, a headlamp is a must-have and is very useful when walking at night.

6. Food and drinking water: You can eat vegetarian meals and replenish hot water in several temples on the top of the platform, so you don’t need to bring too much food. Prepare some high-calorie foods in case you need them. . Also bring a 500ml thermos cup, it is very comfortable to drink some hot water along the way.

7. Medicines: Cold medicine, antidiarrheal medicine, band-aids, sprain spray, gauze? Bring some of them all to be prepared.

8. Communication equipment and maps: Nowadays, there are 4G signals in many places on the top of the platform. A smartphone is enough, but you must ensure that the battery is sufficient. If you get lost or encounter danger, you can call for help at any time. .

9. Others: sunglasses, magic headscarf (the best for UV protection), camera, selfie stick, sunscreen, etc.
