German Eilts Castle Travel Guide
Introduction of Eilts Castle
In the oldest dense forest that has never been destroyed in Germany, there is an 850-year-old EltzCastle, which is located on a steep rock and surrounded by the Eltz River, a tributary of the Mose River. The name of this river comes from Eltz, the most prominent aristocratic family in Germany at that time. Today, more than 30 generations of Eltz family members live in this ancient castle.
Fort Ehlts, located in the deep mountains, has been well preserved for nine centuries, making it one of the few castles in Europe that has never been destroyed. Fort Ehlts survived both the French war in the17th century and two more tragic world wars. In addition to its secret geographical location, its master's shrewd diplomacy also played a considerable role.
With the vicissitudes of history, special architecture and unique geographical location, Fort Ehlts became the representative of German medieval fortress. After 500 years of continuous improvement, the whole building didn't become like this until around AD 1600.
