Origin of Mazu

Mazu, a sea god belief centered on the southeastern coast of China, also known as Tianfei, Tianhou, Heavenly Madonna, and Mother. A god that fishermen believe in together. Mazu, whose original name was Lin Mo, was born on Meizhou Island, Putian, on March 23, 960, the first year of Emperor Jianlong's reign in the Song Dynasty. She died on September 9, 987, the fourth year of Emperor Taizong Yongxi's reign, while rescuing a shipwreck. It became China’s first faith-based world heritage site.
