Historical Legend of Yulong Snow Mountain
In the Tang Dynasty, Nanzhao was named Bai Yue, and once called Yulong Snow Mountain Beiyue. During Zhenyuan period, Wei Gao, a famous minister, made an appointment with Nanzhao to attack Tubo and drove Tubo to the west of Yulong Snow Mountain.
In the early years of the Yuan Dynasty, when Kublai Khan of Yuan Shizu came to Lijiang, he once named Yulong Snow Mountain as "the Great Sage Snow Stone, the Emperor of Anbang in Beiyue". During the period from Yuan to Shunzhi, the kings of Yunnan, Tu Jian and others made an insurrection, and Sichuan soldiers marched eastward to the Yulong Snow Mountain and defeated the Luolesi army.
There is a magical story circulating among Naxi people: Yulong Snow Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain are twin brothers. They live alone and hunt for gold in Jinsha River all day. One day, suddenly an evil devil came from the north. He occupied the Jinsha River and prohibited people from panning for gold. Yulong and Bach were furious and fought the devil with their swords. Bach's brother was weak, but unfortunately his head was cut off by the devil. Brother Yulong fought with the devil for three days and nights, cut down thirteen swords in a row, and finally drove the devil away. Since then, Bach's younger brother has become a headless Haba Snow Mountain, and Yulong's older brother held up thirteen swords day and night to prevent the devil from invading again, and later became thirteen snow peaks. The sweat of his battle turned into black water and white water. Yulong Snow Mountain is often regarded as the external symbol of Naxi people, and this legendary Yulong hero has become the symbol of Naxi people's inner spirit. The "Three Flowers", the protector of Naxi nationality, is the embodiment of Yulong Snow Mountain.
Another legend is that Jinsha River, Nujiang River, Lancang River, Yulong Mountain and Bajia Mountain were originally five brothers and sisters. When the three sisters grew up, they all went out to choose husbands. Their parents were anxious and angry, and ordered Yulong and Bach to catch up. Yulong took thirteen swords, Bach took twelve bows, took a road to the Lijiang River, sat face to face and waited in turn to make an appointment with Fa. Anyone who lets go of the three sisters will be beheaded. When it was Bach's turn to guard, Yulong just fell asleep and the girl from Jinsha River came. Seeing her two brothers blocking the road, she bowed her head and thought about it, putting her feet lightly. Suddenly, her heart lit up and she sang a melodious song. Bach, who was singing customs, was fascinated and gradually fell asleep. She sang and walked, singing eighteen songs in a row, and finally passed through the limbs of her two brothers. As soon as she got out of the mountain pass, she ran away with laughter and joy. Yulong woke up to see this scene, angry and sad. Angry is that Miss Jinsha has gone far, and sad is that the Baja brothers will be beheaded. He couldn't break the contract, slowly drew his sword, cut off Bach's head while he was sleeping, and then turned around and cried. Two tears turned into white water and black water, Bach's twelve bows turned into twenty-four bends on both sides of Tiger Leaping Gorge, and Bach's head fell into the river and turned into a tiger leaping stone.
There is also a legend about love: it is said that after Naxi men and women fall in love, if their families object, they will both go to Yulong Snow Mountain for double suicide, and the whole people will see them off when they are in double suicide. Legend has it that after the double suicide, the places they went to were like heaven, and they were all riding tigers and eating and wearing luxuries. The biggest double suicide in Yulong Snow Mountain in history was 12 couples. They found a place full of azaleas on the mountain, played together for three days and nights, and then both of them died by hanging a tree.
