4. Beisi Pagoda

Beisi Pagoda is the common name of Baoen Temple. It is located in Beita Park. It is a Chinese pavilion-style pagoda. It is known as "the first ancient temple in Wuzhong". It was built in the Three Kingdoms. According to legend, Sun Quan was the one who repaid his mother's kindness. It was built, hence the name Baoen Temple Tower.

Standing majestically on the east side of Renmin Road in the north of Suzhou City, it is a typical pavilion-style pagoda with brick and wood structure. It is especially majestic among the pagodas in Suzhou and has always been an important symbol of Suzhou. Bei Temple, also known as Baoen Temple, is the oldest Buddhist temple in Suzhou, dating back more than 1,700 years. It was first built in the Chiwu Period of Eastern Wu in the Three Kingdoms (238-251). According to legend, it was built by Mrs. Wu, the mother of Sun Quan of the Eastern Wu Dynasty. It was called Tongxuan Temple in ancient times, and was renamed Kaiyuan Temple in the early Tang Dynasty. It was renamed Baoen Temple during the Zhou Xiande period (954-960) after the Five Dynasties. The Beisi Pagoda was first built in the Liang Dynasty of the Southern Dynasty (502-556) and rebuilt in the 23rd year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty (1153). It has been repaired many times in subsequent dynasties. The first floor of the pagoda is large in scale and covered with double eaves. It is the same type of building as the Liuhe Pagoda in Hangzhou. The tower is 76 meters high and is the tallest tower in Jiangnan. On the east side of the North Temple Tower is the Nanmu Guanyin Hall, which was rebuilt in the 40th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1612). It is one of the most complete ancient Ming Dynasty buildings in Suzhou.
