The most "pure" temple in China requires "qualified attire" to enter the temple. What's going on?
The most "pure" temple in China requires "appropriate attire" to enter the temple. This is because the temple does not welcome people who are disrespectful to gods and Buddhas. It is the Donglin Temple located in the Lushan Scenic Area in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. It is also the birthplace of the Jingshi Sect and has a history of more than 1,600 years. During the Tang Dynasty, Donglin Temple was also very prosperous. After monk Jianzhen traveled to Japan to teach scriptures, the teachings of Huiyuan and Donglin were also introduced to Japan. It is reported that Japan's "Donglin Sect" originated from this.
Many Japanese worshipers come here to worship every year. After all, Japan's "Lindong Sect" regards Huiyuan as its ancestor, which is really spectacular! I have to say that this temple is still "strong" after being destroyed by time and war. No wonder many tourists come to burn incense and worship Buddha every day, and the incense is still strong. Historically, Donglin Temple has contributed to cultural exchanges and friendly exchanges between China and Nepal, China and India, and China and Japan. Donglin Temple has also been named a national key temple due to its long historical background.
On the way to Lushan Mountain in Jiujiang, a giant Buddha came into view. Because the Buddha statue is so tall that it can be seen from a distance, the Lindong Buddha statue in Lushan was built with donations from four disciples. This Buddha is the tallest Buddha statue in the world. It reportedly cost more than 1 billion yuan and was plated with 48 kilograms of gold. This is a very noble place.
As a tourist attraction and religious holy place, there are no entrance fees or incense fees. It can be said that burning incense and worshiping Buddha is free, and anyone who is committed to worshiping Buddha is welcome. There is a rule here that people who do not respect the gods are not welcome, especially tourists cannot wear shorts, vests, skirts, slippers, etc. In daily life, dressing like this doesn't matter, but this is a temple and the place where the Buddha lives. You cannot worship Buddha while wearing this kind of clothes. Except for what you are wearing, you are not allowed to do anything ambiguous in the temple, otherwise you will be kicked out by the monks here.
