Historical Records of Large and Small Lian Islands

Xiaolian Island is located in the northwest of Haitan Island in Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Zone. It is located at the north-south transportation hub of Haitan Strait, with a total area of ??2.644 square kilometers. It currently has 3 administrative villages and 5 natural villages, with a total population of more than 3,000 people. According to historical records, Xiaolian Island was developed earlier than other small islands in Pingtan. According to the Records of the Capital of Fujian and the Chronicles of Fuzhou Prefecture, during the Five Dynasties, "the great scholars Lu Hao and Lin Jia came to Fujian from Guangzhou from the Wang family and lived in Xiaolian Mountain in Futang. Later generations showed it in writing and named it Xiaoyingzhou." During the Song and Yuan Dynasties, Xiaolian Island was renamed "Little Yangzhou" because "residents gathered around it and most merchant ships met in the north." After the migration of the Ming Dynasty and the maritime ban of the Qing Dynasty, coupled with the constraints of transportation and other factors, the construction and development of Xiaolian Island gradually lagged behind.

Dalian Island is located northwest of Suao Town, Haitan Island, Pingtan County, and southeast of Xiaolian Island, 7.85 kilometers from the nearest point to the mainland. Because the waterway is swollen and the waves are like water, it is named. It is 6.26 kilometers long from east to west, 1.57 kilometers wide from north to south, and covers an area of ??9.96 square kilometers. The highest point, Weiying Mountain, is 238.5 square kilometers above sea level. The rock line is 20.35 kilometers long. It was developed during the Song and Yuan Dynasties. Today there is Dalian Township, 16 natural villages. Population 5617 people.
