Bianjiezhou Island is under the jurisdiction of Lingshui Li Autonomous County, about 70 kilometers away from Sanya and about 180 kilometers away from Haikou.

Boundary Island Tourist Area has been open since May 1, 2004. In January 2013, it was rated as a national 5A tourist attraction by the National Tourism Administration.

It is China’s first island-type national 5A-level scenic spot.
