The law stipulates the consequences of tour guides abandoning the group

On the 17th, the National Tourism Administration and the State Administration for Industry and Commerce jointly released the 2014 versions of the "Group Domestic Travel Contract (Model Text)", "Group Outbound Travel Contract (Model Text)", and "Mainland Residents Going to Taiwan" "Regional Tourism Contract (Model Text)" and "Domestic Tour Group Agency and Local Tour Operator Contract (Model Text)" will be implemented nationwide from now on.

The law stipulates that a tour guide who abandons a group can ask the travel agency for compensation, up to three times the group fee.

The new version of the contract also adds a new liability for punitive damages. In the case where a travel agency has the conditions to perform but refuses to perform its contractual obligations despite the request of the tourist, causing serious consequences such as personal injury or detention of the tourist, the model text stipulates that the tourist can also require the travel agency to pay compensation of not less than one time but not more than three times the travel fee. .
