Does the influence of children's parents matter?

Is the influence on children's personality environmental or genetic? Is it important for parents or friends? Is family important or school important? From 65438 to 0998, Judith Rich Harris, an independent researcher and textbook author, published Educational Hypothesis: Why Children Do It. The book puts forward a subversive argument: parents have far less influence on their children than we usually think-at least in determining their behavior, while their peers have much greater influence on them than we think. The book Educational Hypothesis has recently been revised and reissued (Free Press, 2009). Jonah Lehrer, editor-in-chief of Scientific Mind magazine, talked with her about the development of Harris concept and why teachers are more important than parents. Scientific mind: Freud's famous theory blames parents (especially mothers) for many children's problems. In the influential educational hypothesis published ten years ago, you thought that parents were almost innocent, while peers played a more influential role. What prompted you to write this book? Edith Richie Harris: It's not just Freud! All psychologists, even behaviorists, such as B.F. Skinner, believe that no matter what children do wrong, parents always bear some responsibility. One of the purposes of writing this book is to reassure parents. I want them to know that being a parent is not such a difficult and anxious job. There are many different ways to raise a child, and there is no clear evidence that one method can get better results than the other.
