Qingyun Cave Scenic Area in the West Bund Tourist Area
● Qingyun Cave
It was built in the 19th year of Guangxu’s reign in the Qing Dynasty (1893). Legend has it that the plague was prevalent in the Heshan area near the West Bank for many years. The local Taoist priest followed the order of the ancestor and found a place to build a cave (Taoism calls larger Taoist temple buildings caves, which means "cave heaven and blessed land"). At the beginning, the Taoist priests went to Zhaoqing, Zengcheng, and Luofu Mountain to search for sacred cave sites, but for several months they found nothing. In the seventh month of that year, Lu Zu showed another holy message, and all the Taoist priests arrived at the Tea Mountain on the west bank. Seeing the high mountains and luxuriant trees, the quiet streams and abundant water, they exclaimed: "There is no Penglai realm like heaven and earth!" So, they went to the Tea Mountain in this place. In the embrace, a majestic Taoist temple was built at the head of Yinkeng River, named Qingyun Cave. Strangely enough, after the palace was built, the plague nearby was stopped without medical treatment. Since then, the reputation of Qingyun Cave has spread far and wide, and its popularity has grown day by day.
What is sad is that during the Anti-Japanese War, Qingyun Cave was severely destroyed. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, it was rebuilt; during the "Cultural Revolution", this place suffered another misfortune. By 1993, with the strong support of higher authorities and Taoist organizations at home and abroad, the reconstruction of Qingyun Cave was successfully carried out. The newly built Qingyun Cave has a towering archway at the head of the gate, and the Dharma Protector Hall, Lu Zu Hall, Sanqing Palace and other palaces and pavilions are built one after another according to the mountainous terrain. Couplets follow couplets, and the cornices are upturned, creating a magnificent momentum. In Qingyun Cave today, Taoist culture has spread far overseas, with branches all over Southeast Asia and North America.
