topography
Tengchong belongs to the western Yunnan Canyon area of Yunnan Plateau, which is located at the southern end of Hengduan Mountain and the relatively open marginal zone on the west side of the southern section of Gaoligong Mountain. There are obvious faults and frequent magmatic activities in the territory, which constitute a special volcanic landform. It is a famous Cenozoic volcanic area in China. Longchuan River, Daying River and their tributaries develop along the fault zone, cutting the plateau into high, medium and low mountains and valley basins with medium and low mountains.
The whole city is high in the north and low in the south, high in the east and low in the west, with a wide valley basin in the middle. The whole land is horseshoe-shaped and opens to the south. Mountainous and semi-mountainous areas account for 84% of the total area, and river valleys and dams account for 16%. The highest peak in the territory is Dalong Peak in Gaoligong Mountain, with an altitude of 3,780 meters, and the lowest point is located at Xiaopuwo estuary, a tributary of Longchuan River in southern Su Qing, with an altitude of 930 meters and a relative height difference of 2,850 meters.
