Shanghai Tourism College was founded in 1979 as "Shanghai Tourism College", which belongs to Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office. In 198, the Ministry of Education approved its name change to "Shanghai Tourism College". In 1983, it was placed under the dual leadership of Shanghai Tourism Bureau and Higher Education Bureau.
