Overview of historical evolution
Gansu is a province with a long history and rich cultural heritage. During the Shang and Zhou dynasties, the Zhou and Qin tribes successively emerged in eastern Gansu and developed eastward, exerting a major influence on the country's political life. From Emperor Wu to Emperor Zhao of the Han Dynasty, the counties of Wuwei, Zhangye, Dunhuang, Tianshui, Anding, Wudu and Jincheng were successively established.
In the Yuan Dynasty, the provincial system was established throughout the country, and Gansu was officially established as a province. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, Gansu's jurisdiction, in addition to the present province, also governed Xining Prefecture, Ningxia Prefecture and part of the eastern border of Xinjiang.
In the tenth year of Guangxu (AD 1884), Xinjiang was established as a province.
In the 18th year of the Republic of China (1929), Ningxia and Qinghai provinces were separated, and their administrative regions were generally the same as today. Gansu is one of the important birthplaces of the Chinese nation and Chinese culture.
It is said that the humanistic ancestors of the Chinese nation, Fuxi, Nuwa and Huangdi, were born in Gansu, so it is known as the "Xixuan Sangzi".
The Zhou people rose in Qingyang, and the Qin people were based in Tianshui. The border opening policy of the Han Dynasty and Zhang Qian's passage to the Western Regions successfully opened the Silk Road. During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, Gansu became an important channel for my country to connect countries in the Western Regions and Europe. Wuwei, Zhangye, and Dunhuang became international trading cities with prosperous economy and culture. The entire Helong region was prosperous with crops and mulberry trees, and the people were prosperous.
After the opening of the sea route, as the country's political, economic and cultural center of gravity moved eastward and southward, especially due to changes in climate and ecological conditions, Gansu gradually became a remote place.
