The black-necked crane is a first-level protected animal in my country and the least known crane in the world. In summer, they mainly nest in sparsely populated areas of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau at high altitudes, and return to low-altitude areas to overwinter in winter.
There are currently only about 8,000 black-necked cranes in the world, and there are more than 4,000 in China. In 2009, the number of black-necked cranes wintering in Dashanbao reached more than 1,200.
Every year in November and December, black-necked cranes migrate here from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Here, unmarried black-necked cranes will complete courtship in March and April of the following year, and then return to their breeding grounds on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Therefore, December to March of the following year is the best time to watch the black-necked cranes in the mountains.
This is my experience of visiting Dashanbao when I traveled from Yibin to Hongdu and from Yuanyang to Zhaotong in March 2010. At that time, tickets for Haizi and Jigong Mountain were not collected yet, but now they have started to be collected. I don't think there will be much change in other situations, I hope this helps.
