How was Chongming Island formed? What are the interesting places in Chongming Island?
Chongming Island, located at the gateway to the Yangtze River Estuary, covers an area of ??more than 1,000 square kilometers, ranking third after Taiwan Island and Hainan Island. It is also the only one among several large islands in my country that is made of sediment. Alluvial islands formed by accumulation. Chongming Island is shaped like a spring silkworm, long from east to west and narrow from north to south. Next to it are Hengsha and Changxing islands. The formation of Chongming Island is linked to the evolution of the Yangtze River Estuary. Because the Yangtze River Estuary stretches to the southeast and Koumensha Island continues to move northward, the former Chongming Island is far different from its current location and shape. According to research, in the Tang Dynasty more than 1,000 years ago, the mouth of the Yangtze River was located in today's Yangzhou and Zhenjiang areas. At that time, the mouth sand islands were just two small sandbars in the river, called Dongsha and Xisha. The area was also very small, about Dozens of square kilometers. The ancestors of the island moved from nearby places such as Danyang and Jurong in Jiangxi Province to make a living by fishing. In the first year of Tang Shenlong (705), Chongming Town was established in Xisha. This was probably the earliest appearance of the word "Chongming". After that, Chongming Island continued to move down the river, rising and collapsing. In the Song Dynasty, Yao Liusha was spread out on the northwest of Xisha, and Sansha was accumulated on the northeast, while the original Dongsha and Xisha were gradually collapsed. Rush away. Next, the fate of Sansha was the same as that of Dongsha and Xisha. It was gradually washed up, and the old was gone and the new was added. On its lower side, sandbars such as Majiabang, Pingyangsha, and Changsha were accumulated. Among them, Changsha is now The predecessor of Chongming Island. In the long history, many sand islands moved northward or were washed away and disappeared. However, the development of Chongming Island today is at its peak. Chongming Island is also unstable, and even its county seat has been relocated repeatedly. By the eleventh year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1583), there had been five major moves in Chongming County. During the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (1875~1908), the south bank of Changsha was rapidly silting up. Later, the local people built stone ponds and dams to stop the siltation trend, and the county was able to maintain and stabilize. The current trend of Chongming Island moving northward is very obvious. The widest part of the North Branch waterway is only about 1.5 kilometers, and the water depth is very shallow. The bottom of the river has become increasingly silted up. It is estimated that in the near future, with the siltation of the North Branch, Chongming Island will It will become part of Qidong and no longer an island. But by then, today's Changxing and Hengsha Islands will have replaced Chongming Island. The terrain on Chongming Island is flat and the landscape is like the fields in the south of the Yangtze River. People who arrive on Chongming Island for the first time will not even feel that they are on the island. There are patches of green crops, irrigation canals, densely populated villages, and intertwined roads. There is no desolate feeling like a normal island. However, as an island, Chongming Island certainly has some unique resources and landscapes. There are roughly three special scenes: one is that there are many crabs. On Chongming Island, especially on the mudflats near the sea, there are small crabs everywhere, and the beach is almost completely covered with darkness. When tourists walk on the beach, the little crabs are frightened and flee into powder-free caves on the beach. The speed is amazing! It can be said that even if you lean down to pick them up at the fastest speed, it is difficult to touch them. Of course, the beach is full of crab holes, and it is no exaggeration to describe it as "ridden with holes." Therefore, Chongming Island is also known as "Crab Island". Coupled with the Chongming dialect, the word "sha" is also pronounced as the word "crab", which sounds quite unique. Especially when the local fishermen and people treat you with local crabs, and politely say: "Nothing, just eat some crabs!" It was very interesting when you first arrived, and even if you look back in the future, you will still remember it. I feel like this experience is nowhere to be found! The second major feature of Chongming Island is the reed forest on the beach, which can be called the "Green Great Wall around the island". Since reeds are suitable for growing on shoals and grow vigorously, we have seen reed belts several kilometers wide on the north and southeast coast of Chongming Island in Tuanjiesha. When people walk in it, it seems to be boundless. Maybe the reed marsh in Shajiabang was no bigger than this back then. Reeds were first used not only to protect banks and promote siltation, but also as raw materials for papermaking. The third major feature is that the shape of the island is unpredictable and always in the process of rapid evolution. Unlike bedrock islands, which have basically maintained a relatively stable state for hundreds of years, Chongming Island has continued to evolve from beginning to end. Projects such as blocking the North Branch are still being planned. It seems that the day when my country's third largest island evolves into land on the north bank of the Yangtze River Estuary will come earlier than expected. Chongming Island also has a beautiful ancient name: "Yingzhou in the East China Sea". According to legend, there was an island on the side of Yingzhou in the ancient East China Sea, where the immortals lived. However, this immortal island has not been stabilized and has been erratic. Qin Shi Huang and Emperor Wu of Han successively sent people to search everywhere on the East China Sea, but they couldn't find it. Later, in the Ming Dynasty, Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang gave Chongming Island the four words "East China Sea Yingzhou". Since then, Chongming Island has been known as Ancient Yingzhou.
