Why doesn’t Shiyan draw water from Huanglong Reservoir?

At the end of September this year, in order to ensure the safety of drinking water for people, Shiyan permanently closed the 41-year-old Huanglong Wharf in Huanglongtan Reservoir. On the 30th of last month, reporters visited Huanglongtan Reservoir to learn about the closure of Huanglong Pier and the rectification of drinking water safety issues.

Led by staff from Shiyan Environmental Protection Bureau and Zhangwan District Environmental Protection Branch, the reporter drove for more than 40 minutes from the city to the Daxia section of Xicheng Road in Zhangwan District, Shiyan. Huanglong can be reached through a tunnel. pier.

However, unlike in the past, the entrance to the tunnel that is the only way to enter the pier has been locked by an iron gate. The announcement posted above states: Huanglong Pier has been closed on September 30. Outside vehicles and people are prohibited from entering the terminal.

Why should Huanglong Pier be closed? On the way, the reporter asked Zhao Yong, deputy director of the Zhangwan District Environmental Protection Bureau. He introduced that Huanglongtan Reservoir is located downstream of the Duhe River. Monitoring data over the years show that its water quality is better than Class II and fully meets the standards. However, Huanglong Wharf is located within the first-level drinking water source protection zone of the reservoir, causing traffic crossing problems and potential environmental safety risks. The closure of Huanglong Wharf is based on the rectification opinions fed back by the Central Environmental Protection Inspectorate and the rectification requirements of the Ministry of Environmental Protection on outstanding environmental protection issues in drinking water sources. "70% of the city's domestic water is drawn from Huanglongtan Reservoir. If the water source cannot be effectively protected, problems will inevitably affect people's lives," Zhao Yong said.

To trace the completion of Huanglong Wharf, we have to go back to 1976. The Huanglongtan Hydropower Plant was built to generate electricity. The normal water level of the Huanglong Reservoir is 247 meters high and the backwater is 97 kilometers, forming a deep-water channel and the Huanglong Wharf was born.

Huanglong Wharf is also known as Shiyan Port locally. In the past when transportation was inconvenient, boating was the main way for residents along the Duhe River to travel. Huanglong Wharf benefits tens of thousands of residents along the river. Before September 30 this year, many people still took passenger ships to Yanshi Village in Zhangwan District and Yetan, Pigu and other places in Yunyang District. The route even went to Zhushan County, with two ships departing each day.

As you walk into Huanglong Pier, the once busy scene is gone forever. The barge moored at the pier has long disappeared, and only human-powered small wooden boats are cleaning up floating objects on the water. Tang Shichao, director of the Urban Management Office of Shiyan Municipal Port and Navigation Bureau, said: "Before 2004, Huanglong Wharf was mainly responsible for the travel and material transportation of shoreline residents. Since then, tourist development routes have been introduced, so the flow of people at Huanglong Wharf is relatively large."

While the reporter was interviewing, a small transport ship filled with furniture and quilts slowly sailed to the shore.

After the boat stopped, the people on the boat began to move furniture to the shore
