What is a diplomat?
diplomatic official
An official in charge of foreign affairs. Generally speaking, it can be divided into two categories: ① domestic and foreign officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, such as officials below the Foreign Minister, are in charge of various affairs in a country's foreign relations. (2) Diplomatic personnel sent by the state to foreign countries, such as ambassadors, ministers, agents, counsellors, secretaries, military attaché s and business representatives. Sometimes diplomats will refer to the latter. Diplomats enjoy diplomatic privileges and preferential treatment in the host country.
Usually, people who help foreigners translate and travel with foreigners are called translators or tour guides, and generally have no formal titles.
