Royal Botanical Gardens Melbourne
The Royal Botanical Garden in Melbourne, which was built in 1845, is located about five kilometers south of downtown Melbourne. The garden is decorated with 19th century garden art, which contains a large number of rare plants and plants endemic to Australia. The Botanical Garden covers an area of 4 hectares, and still retains some buildings and features of the last century, gathering more than 3, kinds of exotic flowers and herbs. It is one of the best designed botanical gardens in the world.
Royal Melbourne Exhibition Building
Built in 188, the Royal Melbourne Exhibition Hall was the venue for the World Expo in 188-1881. One of the original purposes of design and construction was to make the exhibition hall and Melbourne "famous" on the world map. The architecture combines the styles of Byzantine architecture, Roman architecture and Italian Renaissance architecture, and received 1.3 million visitors to the World Expo in eight months. During the exposition held in 1888 to celebrate the centenary of immigrants' settlement in Australia, the number of visitors reached 2.2 million. More than a hundred years ago, this was a great event. In June 24, Melbourne Royal Exhibition Hall was listed on the United Nations World Cultural Heritage List, and it is the only building in Australia that has been listed on this list so far. What is even more difficult is that the building is still used as an exhibition venue, but the frequency of use has been greatly reduced due to the protection of cultural relics.
Chinatown
Melbourne Chinatown is Little Bourke Street, especially the bustling area of this street from the east end to the middle. Chinatown is not a residential area, but a place where Chinese restaurants and shops gather in downtown Melbourne. Melbourne Chinatown is about 9 meters long and 6 meters wide, spanning five vertical streets. There are many Chinese restaurants here, including bookstores, boutiques, duty-free shops, handicraft shops, etc., all of which are Chinese signs and full of oriental flavor. The history of Melbourne Chinatown began in 1854. It is the earliest Chinatown in Australia and one of the earliest Chinatowns in the world.
Melbourne Chinatown itself is an ancient street. Most of the buildings on both sides of the street are more than half a century old, but quaint but not vicissitudes. Unlike in other areas, Chinese characters are engraved on the archways in Chinatown, but red walls and green tile archways without words are erected on four streets with crosswalks.
Every Spring Festival, especially on the nearest weekend after the first day of every year, lights are hung high and flags are flying in Melbourne Chinatown. Many Chinese (Tang people) will come to Chinatown to celebrate the China Lunar New Year. The Melbourne city government closes Chinatown and a part of Russell Street perpendicular to it, which is closed to traffic. In particular, celebrations are held for Chinese. Local residents and tourists can enjoy dragon and lion dances, cultural performances and so on, in addition to attracting Chinese. Chinatown is a cohesive force for Chinese and an attraction for all ethnic groups in Australia, and it has become more and more famous in recent years.
In the central open space in the heart of Chinatown, there is an archway that imitates the Chaotian Star Gate in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, and becomes a sign leading to the Australian-Chinese Museum. The Australian-Chinese Museum was built in November 1985 to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Victoria's statehood. The location of the museum was allocated by the Australian government. The museum retains the true imprint of the history of Chinatown at the beginning of its establishment and when Chinese immigrated to Australia. People can witness the historical changes of Chinatown from a large number of photos, documents and objects and experience the life scenes of Chinese in those years. On the one hand, this museum displays the historical data of Chinese in Australia, on the other hand, it promotes Chinese culture. In Chinatown, there are several Chinese clubs, including Siyi Club, Chaozhou Club, Fujian Club and Nanfanshun Club (Nanhai, Panyu, Shunde). Some of the clubs' plaques were carved in the Xianfeng period of Qing Dynasty. These clubs, which have been around for a hundred years, are of historical value. The coexistence of ancient and modern scenery makes Melbourne Chinatown unique.
The old Parliament Building
was built in 1856, which is the seat of the current Legislative Assembly of Victoria Province. The building is beautiful and unique. Because the old Parliament Building is located not far from the Melbourne Marriage Registry on the same street, newlyweds and wedding guests often take pictures here as a souvenir.
como house
in Como Ave, South Yarra district, there is the home of a wealthy businessman in colonial times. the main building is an old two-story house, which occupies the whole half of the street. Later generations of wealthy businessmen sold this property to the Australian National Heritage Fund, and this mansion became a tourist attraction open to the public. The significance of this scenic spot lies in preserving and displaying the typical super-luxury houses in the past.
Financial Street-Collins Street
It has the reputation of "Australia's Premier Street", which is also called Financial Street, because the head offices of many banks in Australia are on this street, and there are also offices of the Australian Stock Exchange and financial investment companies of many insurance companies. The street was designed by Robert Huo Dou, a famous British surveyor and planner in the 19th century. The length of the street is exactly one mile and the width is 99 feet. Although it is a financial street, the street is not tacky, because there are many antique buildings on both sides of the street, just like a living building, Museum Street. There are many old cathedrals on both sides of the street, such as Corinthian Street Christian Cathedral built in 1845, St. Michael's Union Cathedral built in 1866, and Scott Presbyterian Cathedral built in 1874. What's more rare is that these churches are all open and operating normally so far. Melbourne's tallest building, the 55-storey Liotto Center, is also located on Corinth Street. Rialto Towers is the tallest building in Melbourne, with a height of 251.4 meters (63 floors). It was built in 1986, and there is a viewing platform on the 55th floor, allowing a 36-degree panoramic view of Melbourne. In 24, this building ranked in the top 3 in the world, and it is also the highest commercial building in the southern hemisphere. There are 145 steps from the ground to the top, and there is an annual stair climbing competition, which is very interesting.
Corinth Street is a very busy street. In order to provide convenience for public transportation, the street was changed by the municipal government in 27 to only have one motor vehicle lane in both directions, leaving one lane for trams in both directions. Therefore, there is a strange phenomenon that it is much faster to cross the street by tram than by private car during busy days. Taking public transport is more time-saving than private transport, which is actually a scene of busy hours in many parts of Melbourne, which shows that Melbourne's public transport management has achieved outstanding results.
