On November 15, 2020, at the opening ceremony of the China Zhangqiu Green Onion Cultural Tourism Festival, the 2.532-meter green onion grown by Wangjin Village, Xiuhui Street, Zhangqiu District, Jinan City, Shandong Province broke the Guinness World Record. Zhangqiu green onions have a 2,700-year planting history. They are famous throughout the country for their high, large, crisp, white and sweet taste. They were named the King of Onions by Emperor Shizong of the Ming Dynasty.

In recent years, Zhangqiu green onions have won many honors such as China’s Famous Brand of Agricultural Products, China’s Well-known Trademarks, and China’s Top 100 Regional Public Brands of Agricultural Products, becoming an important symbol of Zhangqiu’s agricultural civilization. The annual China Zhangqiu Green Onion Cultural Tourism Festival has been held for 18 consecutive years. Every year, people from all over the country witness the birth of the number one champion in green onion planting.

Precautions for growing green onions
