Macau Tourism Transportation Guide 2018
The traffic in Macau is also an aspect that everyone is more concerned about when going to Macau. You can have fun in Macau as long as you solve the traffic problems. Today I will talk to you about the traffic. Guide on how to get to Macau
There are many ways to get to Macau, including land, sea and air. You can pass through various ports in Zhuhai, fly directly to Macau Airport, or take waterways from surrounding cities, such as Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, etc.
Land Port
The only city bordering Macau is Zhuhai.
There are three main ports from Zhuhai to Macau, Gongbei Port, Hengqin Port and Wanchai Port. There is also a Zhuhai-Macao cross-border industrial zone port with 24-hour customs clearance, but that has nothing to do with tourists.
Gongbei Port
The largest port is also the one with the most people. In the past, the queues took a long time, but now they basically use the self-service E channel, and the customs clearance speed is very fast. However, there will still be a lot of people queuing up on holidays and weekends, but the speed of manual inspection is still much faster than before. After passing through Macau, there is the Macau border gate. As soon as you come out, there will be many free buses for hotels and casinos on the left. Just follow the arrows to line up and get on the bus. There are also multiple bus lines to get here, which is very convenient.
Zhuhai Station, the terminal station of Guangzhou-Zhuhai Urban Rail, is right next to it. It takes about 5 minutes to walk there. If you come from Guangzhou, Shunde, Jiangmen, or Zhongshan, taking the urban rail is the fastest way. It takes about an hour from Guangzhou.
All cities in the Pearl River Delta, including Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, can take buses to and from Zhuhai Gongbei Passenger Terminal, which is just opposite Gongbei Port and less than 10 minutes' walk away.
The customs clearance time at Gongbei Port is from 6am to 1am the next morning.
Hengqin Port
Generally speaking, if you drive to Macau or take the passenger shuttle bus between the two places, you will go through Hengqin Port. You can also go directly to the Hengqin Port and go through the customs, then take the shuttle bus between the two places (it depends on the passenger flow, the fee is about a few yuan per person, RMB, Portuguese and Hong Kong dollars are accepted) and arrive at the Lotus Bridge. The Lotus Port in Chai, Macau (the bridge is a restricted area and you cannot pass by yourself. You must cross the bridge by car and go through the border inspection after arriving in Macau), so it is very close from here to the major hotels and entertainment venues in Chaihe Road. Moreover, because there are few people in Hengqin, customs clearance is very fast, and customs clearance is 24 hours a day. However, Hengqin's geographical location is relatively remote. There seems to be no free hotel shuttle service when you get out. You can only take buses, so generally it is better to go through customs. It is recommended to take Gongbei Port.
There are buses and direct express lines at Zhuhai Airport. You can directly take Hengqin to cross the border to Galaxy Macau, Studio City, Emperor Hotel, and Regal Hotel.
Wanchai Port
The port is very small, a small shabby bungalow. I walked through it once three or four years ago. There were only two passages, very slow, very slow, very slow. After passing the customs, you need to take a small boat to Macau, which is also paid and takes about 10 minutes. There is no free hotel shuttle when you arrive, you can only take a taxi or bus. But it is very close to A-Ma Temple and can be reached on foot. But it was closed in January last year. Because the house was in dilapidated condition, it is still unknown when it will reopen.
Waterway Terminal
Macau mainly has two piers to communicate with the outside world, the Hong Kong and Macao Terminal and the _Aberdeen Terminal.
The Haitian Pier at Hong Kong Airport and the Fuyong Pier at Shenzhen Airport have dedicated express boats to and from Macau. If you don’t have a stopover in Hong Kong or Shenzhen, you can take a boat directly from the airport. If you have a stopover in Hong Kong or Shenzhen, you can take a boat from the urban pier later. The sailing time is about an hour.
There are also ships going to and from Guangzhou Nansha Port, which takes about 2 hours. But I think in terms of time and cost-effectiveness, it is more convenient and faster to take the urban rail from Guangzhou South Railway Station to Zhuhai Gongbei Port to pass the customs.
Hong Kong and Macau Ferry Terminal
Also known as the Outer Harbor Ferry Terminal or the New Hong Kong and Macau Ferry Terminal, it is located on the Macau Peninsula and is the largest terminal in Macau. There are express boats running to and from Hong Kong (Sky-Tian Pier at the airport/Hong Kong and Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan/China Ferry Terminal at China Hong Kong City in Tsim Sha Tsui/Tuen Mun Ferry Terminal in Tuen Mun) and Shenzhen (Fuyong Pier at the airport/Shenzhen Shekou Cruise Center). There are more flights.
It is relatively quick to get to the scenic spots on the Macau Peninsula from here, such as Fisherman's Wharf, the Historic District, Macau Tower, etc. There are free buses from major hotels and casinos at the pier.
Aberdeen Pier
Also known as Bei On Pier, it is located next to the Macau Airport in Aberdeen and is relatively small. There are also express ships running to and from Hong Kong (Sky Pier at the airport/Hong Kong and Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan/China Ferry Terminal at China Hong Kong City in Tsim Sha Tsui/Tuen Mun Ferry Terminal in Tuen Mun) and Shenzhen (Fuyong Pier at the airport/Shenzhen Shekou Cruise Center). Clippers have relatively few flights.
It is relatively close to various entertainment venues in Zaihe Road. There are free buses from major hotels and entertainment venues at the pier.
The express boat operating companies between the two terminals are TurboJet and Cotai Water Jet. You can check flight schedules and book tickets online on their official websites.
Airport
Macau itself has an airport, which can be reached directly from other places.
The airport is not big, and there are free buses from many hotels and casinos when you get out. The transportation is very convenient.
Macau Airport has buses between Gongbei/Hengqin Port and Guangzhou (urban area/Panyu/Huadu).
In addition, Macau Airport is right next to the Macau Terminal, and sea-air/air-sea connections can also be easily achieved.
The relevant instructions on the official website are as follows regarding city transportation
Free buses
From the above description, we can actually see that no matter how you arrive in Macau, At the checkpoints, piers and airports, there are many free buses from hotels and casinos waiting for you. This is also a major feature of Macau’s transportation. After all, major hotels and casinos also hope to provide comprehensive services to attract more tourists to spend money.
As mentioned more than once above, the major attractions, hotels and casinos in Macau are actually very concentrated, so as long as you make good use of these free buses, you can basically go to most places in Macau. .
Attractions on the Macau Peninsula, such as the historic city center including Ruins of St. Paul's, Macau Tower, Fisherman's Wharf, etc., can all be taken to hotels and casinos on the Macau Peninsula, such as Lisboa/Grand Lisboa. Beijing/Emperor/MGM/One Plaza/Wynn etc.
For tourist attractions in Zai/Coloane, you can take a bus to hotels and casinos on Coloane, such as Venetian/City of Dreams/Studio City/Parisian/Galaxy, etc.
Hotel casinos also have free buses back to the Border Gate Ferry Terminal or the airport, and there are also buses connecting many casinos, such as from Studio City to City of Dreams, from the Venetian to Sands, and from City of Dreams to Macau Tower, etc.
Basically, as long as you are willing, you can use the free bus and walk to reach most places in Macau.
Bus/Taxi
Of course, if you feel that walking is too tiring, taking a bus is also a good choice. Basically, you just need to get on the bus and put in a few coins, and you can sway Wander to where you want to go. However, some bus routes can be circuitous. Taxis are definitely more direct and faster, but they are more expensive. However, since Macau is not big, if you only travel within a short distance, the taxi fare is still acceptable and not too expensive. We took a taxi from Studio City to Coloane, which was half of Macau, and it only cost 50 Portuguese dollars. On the way back, we took a bus to Parisian, which only cost 5 Portuguese dollars. So it's a question of cost-effectiveness.
There is another thing to note when taking a taxi. Some drivers may not be of high quality and may drive in circles or not use the meter. Although I have never encountered this, I have heard others talk about it. On the contrary, I once met a middle-aged female driver on the Macau Peninsula. She was very nice and did not drive around. She also explained the buildings along the road to us along the way. When we arrived, she also told us to be careful and come out early when the places close. Something like that. In short, this is also a matter of luck and character.
As for the color, I don’t think there is any difference between yellow and black, as long as you can stop them by waving at them. The so-called difference is only whether yellow taxis can be queued at taxi stations in Macau Peninsula. This actually has nothing to do with passengers.
In addition, starting from April this year, Macau began to provide e-hailing taxi services. To use it, you need to download an app called "Macau e-hailing taxi". However, according to feedback, the experience is not very good. There will be people who don’t have a car or have a car but are let go, and various other problems. Compared with various god-level taxi-hailing apps in China, it pales in comparison. You can also give it a try if you want to. In addition to the app, you can also call the call hotline: 288-12345 and the customer service hotline: 8893-9999. Transportation
I achieved zero transportation fees throughout the entire trip in Macau, relying entirely on the casino’s free shuttle bus and my own two legs. This experience is definitely worth learning from. First, identify the core transportation transfer stations, and then use these points to divide the areas to the scenic spots you want to visit. Then make good use of the free shuttle buses at the casinos and hotels. The rest can be walked. Because the roads in Macau are narrow and there are many one-way streets, taking the bus sometimes takes longer than walking. Just use Amap for navigation. After all, Macau belongs to China, China, China. Important things should be said three times~
Macau Several major casinos on the peninsula, such as Emperor, Wynn, Lisboa, and Grand Lisboa, have buses to and from the airport, pier, and border gates.
There are several major entertainment venues in the city, such as City of Dreams, Venetian, Parisian, Galaxy, etc. They have buses to and from the airport, pier, border gate, downtown Macau, Macau Peninsula, and Macau. tourist tower.
In my experience, there are 4 transportation points:
Airport/pier - you can take a car to and from the Macau Peninsula and Lu_cheng resort area; the Hong Kong and Macau pier can be walked to the fishing port People's Pier, Golden Lotus Plaza, Grand Prix Museum, Wine Museum
Road City Resort Concentration Area - You can take a car to and from Aberdeen City, Macau Peninsula, Airport/Terminal
Macau Peninsula Emperor - you can take a car to and from the city and the pier; you can walk to the historical city and the Macau Tower
Macau Tower - you can take a car to and from the city; you can walk to the historical city
>As mentioned above, Macau’s attractions, hotels and casinos are basically concentrated, and many places can actually be reached on foot.
For example, in the historical city, walking from Ruins of St. Paul's to the A-Ma Temple in the south, stopping and looking, about two or three hours is enough. For example, get off the bus at Lisboa/Grand Lisboa/Emperor and walk to Ruins of St. Paul's, Yaohan, Macau Tower, etc. It's not too far, and it takes more than 10 minutes at most. For example, the Venetian/Parisian/City of Dreams/Studio City I went to this time are basically all connected together and can be reached within a few steps.
So, you can check in advance which hotels and casinos are near the attractions you want to visit, then take the free bus to these hotels and casinos, and then walk to the relevant attractions.
It is recommended to download offline maps in advance or make good use of Google Maps. About transportation
Aircraft: Macau International Airport is located in Taipa and operates 24 hours a day. The most convenient way to get from the airport to the city and hotels is to take the free shuttle bus provided by each hotel. All major hotels have airport pick-up services, and passengers can make reservations in advance or make arrangements upon arrival.
Ship: Macau has two piers. If you are coming to Macau from Hong Kong or Shenzhen, taking a boat is the most convenient and fastest. The main passenger terminals in Macau are the Taipa Temporary Passenger Terminal and the Outer Harbor Ferry Terminal.
Intra-island transportation: Transportation within Macau island is basically free, because major hotels basically have free shuttle buses, which can basically cover major attractions, areas and transportation hubs. Moreover, Macau is not big, and many tourist attractions can be reached on foot.
