Hancheng City is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Shaanxi Province and is managed by Weinan City. Located on the west bank of the Yellow River in eastern Shaanxi Province, at the northeastern corner of the Guanzhong Basin, it borders Yichuan to the north, Huanglong to the west, Heyang to the south, and faces Hejin, Xiangning, Wanrong and other counties and cities in Shanxi Province across the Yellow River to the east. Historical evolution:

On March 24, the 37th year of the Republic of China (1948), Hancheng was liberated for the second time. It initially belonged to the Huanglong subdivision, but in June 1949 it was changed to the Dali subdivision.

In May 1950, the Dali subdivision was revoked and changed to the Weinan subdivision. In October 1956, it came under the direct jurisdiction of the province. In January 1959, Heyang and Baimatan Commune of Huanglong County were merged into Hancheng. The original construction was restored on August 15, 1961, and it belonged to Weinan Prefecture. In March 1972, the prefecture was renamed as an area, and Hancheng was still under its jurisdiction. Approved by the State Council in October 1983, it was changed to Hancheng City (county-level city) in January 1984, still belonging to the Weinan region.

In May 1995, after Weinan was transformed into a city, it came under the jurisdiction of Weinan City.

On May 25, 2012, the Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government issued the "Opinions on Carrying out the Provincial Planned Municipality Pilot in Hancheng City", clearly upgrading Hancheng City to the deputy city and department level administrative structure. Without changing the current administrative affiliation, the fiscal and taxation system will be fully under provincial direct control and will have the same economic and social management authority as districts and cities.
