Longgang Temple site faces Hanzhong, a famous historical and cultural city, across the river in the east, Liangshan in the west, Lian Jin in the south and Hanjiang in the north. Because the mountains follow each other and the rivers are like dragons, it is named Longgang Temple.

Unearthed cultural relics prove that Longgang Temple existed before the first year of Yong Guang in the Southern Song Dynasty (465), and it became a tourist attraction for people to visit the temple by boat from Hanzhong in the Tang and Song Dynasties.

A famous poet in the Tang Dynasty once wrote a poem "Boating with Zhao in the North Yard of Longgang Temple": "Whoever entertains two ambassadors will take the Long March. Rebuilt three times in the Qing Dynasty, there are 48 existing ancient temples with a total area of 1 1685 square meters. Longgang Temple sites include Paleolithic sites, Neolithic sites and temple buildings, tombs of the Han Dynasty, revolutionary sites, etc. , rich in cultural connotation, densely distributed and self-contained.

The excavation of this site provides valuable information for studying the origin, stages and development of Yangshao culture in Neolithic China, and also proves that leguminous plants were first cultivated in Longgang Temple 7500 years ago.

1992 The site was announced by the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government as a provincial key cultural relics protection unit.

On May 25th, 2006, Longgang Temple site was approved by the State Council to be included in the sixth batch of ancient sites of national key cultural relics protection units.

In 20 1 1 year, Hanzhong Municipal People's Government listed Longgang Temple site, including Neopaleolithic remains, as an important cultural industry project that the municipal government gave priority to, and provided sufficient financial support and logistical support. In 2065,438+03, the construction of Longgang Temple National Archaeological Site Park was approved by National Cultural Heritage Administration and officially started.
