Which rivers are the birthplace of Tibet and which oceans flow into it?
The Yarlung Zangbo River (called Brahmaputra River in India and flowing into the Ganges) flows into the Bay of Bengal; Yangni River and Lhasa River are tributaries of Yarlung Zangbo River.
The Nujiang River (called salween in Southeast Asia) flows into the Andaman Sea.
Shiquan River (upper reaches of Indus River) flows into Arabian Sea; Xiangquan River is the upper reaches of Sutleji River, the largest tributary of the Indus River.
Xizang Autonomous Region is one of the provinces with the largest number of rivers in China. According to incomplete statistics, there are more than 20 rivers in Tibet with a basin area of 1000 square kilometers, more than 2000 square kilometers and thousands of rivers with a basin area of 1000 square kilometers. Jinsha River, Lancang River, Nujiang River and Yarlung Zangbo River all flow through here, among which Nujiang River and Yarlung Zangbo River originated in Tibet. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is also the province with the largest distribution of international rivers in China, and the sources of famous Asian rivers such as Ganges, Indus, Yarlung Zangbo, Mekong, salween and Irrawaddy are all here. The water sources of rivers in Tibet are mainly composed of rainwater, snowmelt water and groundwater, with large flow, low sediment concentration and good water quality. It is characterized by uneven seasonal distribution of runoff, small interannual variation, low water temperature and great difference in ice conditions.
