A brief text introduction to Qingdao
Geographic location and natural environment
Qingdao is located at the southern end of the Shandong Peninsula (35°35'-37°09' north latitude, 119°30'-121°00' east longitude), between the Yellow Sea and coast. Qingdao is surrounded by mountains and sea, with beautiful scenery and pleasant climate. It is a unique coastal city. The total length of the city's coastline (including the coastline of its islands) is 870 kilometers, of which 730 kilometers are mainland coastline, accounting for 1/4 of the coastline of Shandong Province. The coast is winding and interspersed with headlands and bays. Qingdao currently governs seven districts and five cities, with a total area of ??10,654 square kilometers and a total population of 7.409 million, of which the urban area is 1,159 square kilometers and has a population of 2.6543 million.
Qingdao is located in the north temperate monsoon area and has a temperate monsoon climate. Due to the direct regulation of the marine environment and the influence of the southeast monsoon, ocean currents and water masses from the ocean, the urban area has obvious maritime climate characteristics. The air is humid, the temperature is moderate, and the four seasons are distinct. The temperature rises slowly in spring, one month later than inland; the summer is humid, hot and rainy, but there is no severe heat; in autumn, the weather is high and cool, with little precipitation; in winter, the wind is strong and the temperature is low, lasting for a long time, but there is no severe cold.
Historical evolution
Qingdao is a famous historical and cultural city and one of the birthplaces of Taoism in China. 6,000 years ago, humans lived and multiplied here. During the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, Jimo, the second largest town in Shandong at that time, was established. After Qin Shihuang unified China, he visited Langyatai, now located in Jiaonan City, Qingdao, three times. In the Qin Dynasty, Xu Fu once led a fleet that set sail from Langya Mountain and crossed eastward to Korea and Japan. Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty once "worshiped gods and men in Jiaomen Palace" at Buqi Mountain, now located in Chengyang District, Qingdao City, and set up nine Mingtang halls to worship heaven and ancestors at Nugu Mountain on the bank of Jiaozhou Bay. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Qingdao had developed into a prosperous town, formerly known as Jiao'ao.
On June 14, 1891 (the seventeenth year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty), the Qing government set up fortifications in Jiaoao, marking the beginning of the construction of Qingdao. In November 1897, Germany used the "Juye Mission Case" as an excuse to send troops to occupy Qingdao. The First World War broke out in 1914. In November, Japan invaded and occupied Qingdao, replacing Germany's military colonial rule of Qingdao. In 1919, the famous "May 4th Movement" in modern Chinese history was caused by the "recovery of Qingdao". On December 10, 1922, China took back Qingdao and established the Jiaoao Commercial Port Supervisory Office, directly under the Beiyang Government. In July 1929, Qingdao Special City was established. In 1930, it was renamed Qingdao City. In January 1938, Japan invaded Qingdao again. In September 1945, the Kuomintang government took over Qingdao and it remained a special city. On June 2, 1949, Qingdao was liberated. In 1986, Qingdao City was listed separately in the national plan and granted considerable provincial-level economic management authority. In 1994, it was listed as one of the 15 sub-provincial cities in the country.
