Travel notes of Suzhou

There is an old saying in China: There is heaven on earth and Suzhou and Hangzhou on earth. This famous saying has attracted millions of tourists to Suzhou for sightseeing.

Tiger Hill, known as "the first scene in Wuzhong", also known as Haiyong Mountain, Haiyong Peak and Khufu, is located in the northwest of Suzhou ancient city, seven kilometers away from Changmen. In ancient times, Tiger Hill was once an island in the bay that appeared and disappeared with the tide. After vicissitudes of life, it finally emerged from the sea and became a hill isolated on the flat ground, so people called it Haiyong Mountain. "When will the sea come? Thunderbolt breaks the earth's veins, splits thousands of miles and cuts the pale wall. " Zheng Sixiao, a poet in the Song Dynasty, vividly revealed the origin of Tiger Hill. Although Tiger Hill is far away from the sea now, people can still feel the traces and information of the sea. When people came to Tiger Hill, they didn't set foot on the gate of Toushan, but they saw the four characters "vicissitudes of life" embedded in the wall on the other side of the river. After entering the mountain gate, a stone bridge spans the surrounding mountains and rivers. This bridge is called "Haiyong Bridge". There are some strange stones along the mountain road, and the smooth stone body is caused by the waves; Hanhan spring is also called "sea spring" because it dives into the sea; In Yuejiaxuan, Cui Yongshan Village, there is a stone carving of "Hai Yongfeng" inscribed by Qian Daxin, a scholar of Qing Dynasty. Tiger Hill once had Wanghailou, Haiquan Pavilion and Haiyan Pavilion. The origin of Tiger Hill and the sea can be seen in the writings of literati in past dynasties. "The sea is on both sides of the pavilion and the mountain is in the center of the temple."

He Lv, the king of Wu, died of tetanus in 496 BC and was buried in this mountain. Three days after entering the cave, a white tiger crouched on the tomb, hence the name Tiger Hill. Huqiu Mountain is built by famous people on the mountain, with a large scale and increasingly perfect pavilions. The temples on Huqiu Mountain are all built on the mountain, famous in Wuzhong and Jiangnan. Although Huqiu Mountain is small, its beauty can be compared with the magnificent famous mountains and rivers. Wudi Ji says, "The mountains are steep and the forests are deep, which is the table of rivers and valleys in Zuo Qiu". In the Song Dynasty, Zhu's "Three Wonders of Tiger Hill" said: "If you look at the shape of a mountain, you will not cross the ridge. If you climb it, you will see the peak and cliff, and it will be thousands of miles away. Near Guo, it was built, and there was no continuity next to it. The scenery of the whole city, the dome on all sides, the sea on the north wall, Zhenze Cangzhou and the sea of clouds are everywhere, and the outline looks around and points to thousands of miles. Both of them also have their own characteristics; The sword pool is full of water, and the sea is soaked in clouds and smoke. If you don't make a profit, you will make a profit, and the profit will be three wonders. " The novel Nine Clothes on Tiger Hill in the Ming Dynasty is "suitable for the moon, snow, rain, smoke, dawn in Yichun, summer, autumn, falling flowers and trees and sunset". So it's interesting whether it's spring, summer, autumn and winter, rain or shine.

Huqiu Mountain has eighteen views in front of the mountain and eighteen views behind it. There is a saying that "the front mountain is beautiful and the back mountain is quiet". At the foot of the back mountain, surrounded by Qinghe River, the river floats, and the ancient trees along the river are towering, and a large number of ancient and famous trees such as camphor, fir, cypress, pine, ginkgo and magnolia are flourishing. Hidden in the jungle are Fencui Pavilion and Yulan Mountain Residence; Lan Yuege and other scenic spots. Toushanmen, Haiyong Bridge and Duanliangtang are the three major entrance scenes of Huqiu Mountain. The middle of the broken beam is connected by two broken beams, and the broken seam can be seen. On the way to Tiger Hill, you can see Hanhan Spring, Sword Test Stone, True Mother's Tomb, Thousand Stone, Sword Pool, Erxian Pavilion and Nodding Stone, all of which are full of beautiful legends. Yunyan Temple Pagoda, also known as Tiger Hill, towering in the sky, has the reputation of "Leaning Tower of Pisa" in China.

The scenery of Huqiu Mountain is quiet and picturesque. "You can travel all over the world equally, only in Tiger Hill and never tire of it", which is the best admiration for Tiger Hill. Besides flowers, I think the most classic scenic spots in Tiger Hill are Jianchi and Yunyan Leaning Tower. The sword pool is mysterious, with the mystery of He Lv's tomb and the legend that the word "God Goose" changed. Wind, valleys, clouds and springs attract many tourists. However, the space available for taking photos is too narrow to fully express that feeling. Su Dongpo, a great writer in the Song Dynasty, said more than a thousand years ago that it was a pity to go to Suzhou instead of Tiger Hill.

Suzhou city is very beautiful. Although she is small, she is full of connotation; Although there are no buildings, people can see the development of Suzhou; The whole urban planning is tangible and colorful, and at the same time you can feel the charm of being an ancient city. Small and chic, the west garden is diagonally opposite. The West Garden is small, and the most fascinating thing is the 500 arhats!

Saionji, located outside the west gate of Suzhou City, was built between the Yuan Dynasty and the first year of Zhengzheng, and has a history of 700 years. The ancient trees in the temple are deep, the Sanskrit sounds are heavy, the green water is winding, and the birds are singing and the flowers are fragrant. Yellow walls and blue tiles roll the dragon ridge, and red columns draw Buddha gold. There are four halls of heavenly kings, the Hall of Great Heroes, the Hall of Guanyin, the Tibetan Scripture Building and the Hall of Five Hundred Arhats. Among them, the Lohan Hall is the most distinctive building in saionji, with a large scale, 348 rooms, centered on four famous mountain plastic seats, and 500 clay statues of Lohan arranged along the four walls, which are larger than ordinary people, with different expressions and vivid shapes. Posture, although sitting, but don't feel monotonous. From the overall modeling point of view, there are thin old people, a few people with delicate figures and beautiful bones, powerful and strong people and kind-hearted people, forming a group of exquisite and complete statues. As the saying goes: life is easy, life is easy, and life is not easy. Life has to face reality, many people and other chores. Seeing the various appearances of the arhats, I seem to be awakened, thinking of the famous monk Hanshan and the famous question. Hanshan asked, "There are people in the world who slander me, insult me, laugh at me, belittle me and cheat me. How do they deal with it? " Picked it right: "Just endure him and let him avoid him, be patient with him, respect him and ignore him. In a few years, you will see him! " Understand this Buddhist quip silently, and then realize the enlightenment of arhat, only then can we know that life can only cope with the changes in the world if we settle down, and thank arhat for his enlightenment. In the center of the hall is a thousand hands and eyes Guanyin carved by a whole camphor tree. Not far from avalokitesvara, there is a special Buddha statue with four different faces on each side, which is said to represent four famous Buddhist mountains and their main gods, namely Manjusri Bodhisattva in Wutai Mountain, Earth-treasure Bodhisattva in Jiuhua Mountain, Earth-treasure Bodhisattva in Emei Mountain and Guanyin Bodhisattva in Putuo Mountain. There are also statues of Maitreya, Hanshan and Picked Up, Guan Gong and Wei Tuo. Five hundred arhats are golden Buddha statues, sparkling and radiant. Among them, the most famous images are "Jigong" and "Jigong", which are exemplary. Exquisite and realistic. Its vividness and wit are fascinating and can be called a masterpiece. 、

In saionji, the giant salamander in the release pond attracts tourists as much as Luohantang. The release pond is a tadpole-shaped pond, with the "head" in the south and the "tail" in the north, and folded to the southeast, with a fairly wide area. There are many fish and turtles in the pond, most of which were released by Buddhist believers. Among them, five-color carp can be compared with Yuquan in Hangzhou. There is a giant salamander in the pool, which is the descendant of the old giant salamander stored in Ming Dynasty. Its life span has exceeded 300 years, and it only appears in hot weather.

In front of the saionji Mountain Gate, there is a square of more than 2,000 square meters, where 1 10,000 famous trees are planted. Ren Guang release pond is located in the west garden of the temple, surrounded by pavilions and cloisters. There is an octagonal pavilion in the pool, named "Pavilion in the Lake", which stands in the water with its wings spread and runs through the banks with a curved bridge, which is quite ingenious. Surrounded by pavilions, flowers and trees, fish swimming around in the pool, and a few precious turtles, there are no other places. These turtles have a history of hundreds of years and weigh more than 100 kg. They often surface to amuse tourists. The beautiful scenery in the south of the Yangtze River and the exquisite gardens in Suzhou are also integrated into the temple architecture, which makes saionji more subtle and meaningful and full of cultural colors.

Hanshan Temple, located next to Fengqiao outside Gusu City, was built in the first year of Tian Liang in 502 AD. In the Tang Dynasty, it was said that the monk Hanshan once lived in the temple, and it was renamed Hanshan Temple in the Tang Dynasty. Several generations later, the temple was built and destroyed by fire. The present building was rebuilt in the late Qing Dynasty.

Hanshan Temple is famous in the world thanks to the Tang Dynasty poet Zhang Ji. When Zhang Ji went to Beijing to take the exam, he went to Sun Shan incognito and returned to his hometown. He passed through Suzhou, spent the night in Qiao Feng, and wrote "a night-mooring near maple bridge":

On a frosty night, Jiang Feng sleeps by fishing and fire;

In the lonely Hanshan Temple outside Suzhou, the bell that rang in the middle of the night reached the passenger ship.

Since the poet Zhang Ji wrote the poem "a night-mooring near maple bridge" in the Tang Dynasty, this temple has become famous far and near.

The main scenic spots of Hanshan Temple are Daxiong Hall, Tibetan Scripture Building, Bell Tower, inscription "a night-mooring near maple bridge" and the first floor of Fengjiang.

On both sides of the Hall of Great Heroes are engraved the poems of Hanshan and the sixteen arhats hanging on both sides. The two stone monks in the temple are Hanshan and Picked. Hanshan, also known as Hanshanzi, originally lived in Han Yan, Shifeng County (now Tiantai, Zhejiang Province) during the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty. He is good at poetry articles and wrote more than 300 poems, which were later compiled into Hanshanzi Poems. Picked up, originally an orphan, was taken into Tiantai Mountain by Feng Gan as a monk, so he was named "Picked up" and became friends with Hanshan. Later generations compiled his poems into a book and attached them to Hanshanzi's Poems. This stone painting is a kind of freehand brushwork, which can depict the vivid expressions of the two of them smiling and clapping with only a few strokes, and has certain artistic value. On both sides of the front yard of the main hall, there are six five-needle pines, which were planted in the temple by the Japanese friendly delegation in 1976. This tree grows in Ehime Prefecture, Japan, which is called' five-leaf pine' in Japan. It has been growing for five years. On the right side of the Ursa Major Hall hangs a bronze bell from zhina given by Japanese friends in the late Qing Dynasty. The clock face is engraved with an inscription describing the reason for casting the clock. This clock is made of two * * * pieces, one is hung in Tingshan Temple in Japan, and the other is sent to Hanshan Temple.

The ancient bronze bell of Hanshan Temple was cast in the Tang Dynasty and was later destroyed. During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, the Zen master recast the bronze bell in this discipline. Tang Yin, a layman, described the bell in detail in Hanshan Temple in Gusu, saying that the bell is loud and well known. But this bronze bell no longer exists. There is a saying about the whereabouts of Jiajing bronze bell: it was stolen by Japanese ronin, which caused a storm. When Hanshan Temple was rebuilt in the 31st year of Guangxu, the Japanese raised funds to cast two bronze nipple clocks imitating the Tang Dynasty. One was sent to Hanshan Temple and the other was kept in Guanshan Temple in Japan. There was an inscription on it: "Hanshan Temple in Gusu was robbed year after year, and the bronze bell in the Tang Dynasty was empty in Zhang Jishi's ear. I heard that the temple clock was introduced into our state, and now it is lost, so I cast a new clock and hung it. " Today, this bronze bell still hangs on the right side of Hanshan Temple Hall.

Hanshan Temple is also known to women and children in Japan. Hanshan Temple was named after two eminent monks, Hanshan and Pickup, who came here from Tiantai Mountain during Zhenguan period of Tang Dynasty. Later, monk Pika went to Japan to preach, and built Pika Temple in Japan, and became a sister temple with Hanshan Temple. At the same time, the Buddhist rule of ringing the bell 108 times also spread to Japan. The Japanese believe that listening to the clock can exorcise evil spirits and make money into treasure. Every New Year's Eve, hundreds of Japanese people come to Hanshan Temple to listen to the bell. They think that when we say goodbye to the old year and welcome the new year, hearing the bells of Hanshan Temple can eliminate disasters. After listening to the bell and eating a bowl of noodles, everything will be fine in the new year. Of course, they prefer to go to the bell tower and ring the bell again, because then they can get God's blessing.

To get rid of the troubles of the year, this has become a unique tourism project here.

The Tibetan Classics Building is the original collection place of Chen Fang's Tibetan Classics. On the roof, there are sculptures of the Monkey King, Tang Priest, Pig Bajie and Sha Wujing in the Journey to the West. The inner wall of the first floor is embedded with the scriptures of King Kong Prajna Paramita Sutra.

The bell tower is two-story octagonal. The stone tablet downstairs was erected during the reconstruction of Hanshan Temple. The inscription on the front of the monument was written by Cheng Dequan, and the name and amount of money of the fundraiser when Hanshan Temple was rebuilt were engraved on the back of the monument.

In the twilight or twilight, listening to several bells floating in the wind by the riverside lake can not help but arouse people's nostalgia. Among the bells of countless famous temples, the bells of Hanshan Temple in the west of Suzhou City are the most fascinating.
