Why do sounds come from Mingsha Mountain?

In ancient times, it was called Shensha Mountain and Shajiao Mountain, located 6 kilometers south of Dunhuang City in Gansu Province. It is about 40 kilometers long from east to west, about 20 kilometers wide from north to south, and is tens to more than a hundred meters high. The peak ridge is as steep as a knife blade. It is actually a sand dune formed by the wind. It stretches from east to west and connects to form a sand dune. There is a clear spring shaped like a crescent moon in the sand mountain, called Crescent Moon Spring (see Crescent Moon Spring Strip). When you climb the mountain and look down, you will see many sand dunes and rippling springs, which is very interesting. When tourists slide down from the top of the mountain, the sand falls with their bodies, and the sound is endless. According to historical records, when the weather is fine, the sound of strings and bamboo strings is often heard on the mountain, just like playing music, so it is called "Qingming on the Shaling Mountains" and it is a scene in Dunhuang. It is also said that in ancient times, a general led his troops on an expedition, and the soldiers and horses camped here. One night, a strong wind suddenly blew up, and the yellow sand covered the sky. The whole army was covered by the sand. From then on, the sound of drums and horns was heard in the mountain, so it was named Mingsha. In fact, the sound of sand mountains is a masterpiece of nature. The sand in this area is mainly formed by weathering and erosion of metamorphic rocks in the Qilian Mountains. It is then transported by wind and piled up into sand dunes. The sand grains are pure, hard and coarse, and the gaps between the sands are large. Once the sand grains move and rub, they become It will make sounds naturally. In addition, the bowl-shaped terrain near Crescent Moon Spring causes sound reflections to form echoes, making the sound of sand roaring even louder. Another theory is that any sand dune has dense and moist sand branches under the dry sand layer. When the sand flows down the slope due to man-made or wind blowing, wavy patterns are formed on the surface of the sand layer, and its vibration force is transmitted to the bottom. The moist layer, like the chime box of a stringed instrument, produces chirping and thus makes a louder sound.
