Luke Island Dry Ski Resort in Luhu Ecological City

The Luke Island Dry Ski Resort is located in the "Luke Island" in the center of the 2,400-acre lake in the "Luhu Water City Scenic Area" in Chengdu. The island project uses customized architectural design to create themes for parent-child activities. In order to provide the same diverse spatial experience, these experimental landscape buildings have become the special scenery of Luke Island. The dry ski resort project was entrusted by the owner to arrange 20-meter-wide primary dry-ski trails and 30-meter-wide intermediate dry ski trails on the natural slope facing the lake as a practice venue for junior skiers.

The project is directly adjacent to the lake, ensuring that the ski trails are arranged perpendicular to the lake shoreline as much as possible, and the process of skiing and sprinting towards the end of the lake shore is regarded as the core experience of the project. Due to the short depth of the site and the limited height difference and slope, after repeated verification with the owner, the method of two separate slides was finally adopted. Entering from the unified front preparation area, one side is directly connected to the primary trail, ensuring that beginners don’t have to travel too far when wearing snowshoes; the other side is the overlapping scaffolding construction platform, which rises to the 15-meter intermediate trail starting platform , experience a faster sliding feeling.

On the basis of meeting the owner’s space requirements for reception hall, cafe, storage room, bathroom and other spaces, we also tried different material forms in the plan, from wooden structure to white scaffolding, aiming to The simplest structural system completes the construction of the project and creates the most appropriate skiing experience atmosphere.

Through continuous attempts at structural solutions, the project finally realized the shifting and hollowed-out volumetric relationship through the expression of scaffolding. The white scaffolding structure is light and transparent, adding to the floating feel of the snow path. The steel structure staircase passes through the hollow space inside the scaffolding structure and wraps around the outside of the main body, allowing visitors to enjoy the surrounding scenery as they ascend.

The landscape is arranged with bright color blocks and lines to integrate the building with the site, and the color enhances the recognition of the entire area. A linear passage leads the experiencer from the roadway to the site. The dark ground is paired with bright yellow lines, which is full of movement and serves as a guide.

On the starting platform at the highest point, tourists can finally overlook the panoramic view of Luke Island. By controlling the lighting at the bottom, an interesting light and shadow space can be formed outside the coffee shop in the evening.

The venue adopts an open boundary design, which improves interaction and participation. People who visit and watch the sliding activities can find good stopping points.
