According to Baidu Encyclopedia, Shanghai Tourism Festival was founded in 1990, and its activities started on a Saturday in September every year and lasted for more than 20 days, covering nearly 40 projects in several categories, such as sightseeing, leisure, entertainment, culture and sports, exhibitions, food and shopping, attracting more than 8 million visitors every year. Shanghai Tourism Festival is jointly sponsored by Shanghai Cultural Tourism Bureau and Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce. It is the largest and most influential large-scale tourism festival in China.

Shanghai Tourism Festival takes "People's Festival" as its orientation and "Entering Beauty and Joy" as its theme. Through the colorful and distinctive festival activities in various districts and counties in Shanghai, the development requirements of the "Belt and Road Initiative" will be publicized to attract strong support and extensive participation from all walks of life.
